Abstract: A radio receiver with AM stereo signal demodulator uses left and right channel sum and difference signals. The design minimises noise burst interference and separation effects between left and right channels. A tuner produces an intermediate frequency and a subsequent detector separates the summed left and right signal plus signal level information. The 'IF' is also fed to circuits which process the left and right difference signals. The signal level information from the sum signal detectors is fed via a control circuit into the difference channel for phase modulation and comparison with the non-modulated signal and multiplication with it.

Abstract: A power control circuit for use in radio transmitters such as portable telephone sets. The circuit comprises a power amplifier for amplifying in terms of power a transmission signal to obtain an output signal; control circuits (35-37) for controlling the amplitude of the signal output (S13) by the power amplifier (13); a limiter (41) for partially limiting the amplitude of the signal from the power amplifier (13) in order to obtain an output signal; a multiplication circuit (42) for multiplying the output signal from the limiter (41) and part of the signal from the power amplifier (13) in order to acquire an output signal (S13); a low-pass filter (44) for extracting a DC component (V44) of the output signal (S42) from the multiplication circuit (42); and a comparison circuit (33) for comparing the DC component (V44) from the low-pass filter with a reference voltage (V32) in order to obtain a comparison output (S33). The comparison output (S32) from the comparison circuit (33) is supplied to the control circuits (35-37), and the control circuits control the level of the signal (S13) from the power amplifier (13) so that the DC component (V44) from the low-pass filter (44) will become equal to the reference voltage (V32) regardless of temperature change.

Abstract: A stereo demodulating circuit for an AM stereo receiver includes an IF stage for producing an IF signal from a received AM stereo signal of the type having a carrier amplitude-modulated with the sum of left and right channel signals and the carrier phase-modulated with the difference of the left and right channel signals; an envelope detector for producing a sum signal corresponding to the sum of the left and right channel signals in response to the IF signal, and having level information, amplitude-modulation information and a DC component; a negative peak limiter for limiting the minimum level of the sum signal from the envelope detector; a divider for dividing the IF signal by the sum signal with its minimum level limited to produce a phase-modulation signal; a phase-locked loop for producing a non-modulation signal from the IF signal; a low-pass filter for removing the amplitude-modulation information from the sum signal from the envelope detector to produce a level information signal having only the level information; a second negative peak limiter for limiting the minimum level of the level information signal; multiplier for multiplying the level information signal with its minimum level limited, the non-modulation signal and the phase-modulation signal to produce a difference signal; and a matrix from reproducing the left and right channel signals in response to the sum signal with its DC component removed and the difference signal with a carrier component thereof removed.

Abstract: A pilot signal detecting circuit for use in an AM stereo receiver capable of receiving and demodulating AM stereo signals broadcast according to any of several different AM stereo modulation methods, in which the particular method employed in broadcasting the AM stereo signals is determined by detecting the individual pilot signal and providing an indication of the particular method employed in modulating the broadcast AM stereo signal. Replicas of each of the different pilot signal frequencies in each of the different AM stereo modulation systems are generated and a signal containing the pilot signal is extracted from the demodulated received AM stereo signal. The replicas are compared with the extracted pilot signal to determine the identity of the AM stereo modulation system employed in the received AM stereo signal. A phase-locked-loop is employed to extract the pilot signal from the received signal and a synchronous detector and envelope detector are employed to demodulate the left and right channel stereo signals from the received AM stereo signal. Comparison of the replica and the received pilot signal is performed in identical phase detectors which receive a corresponding replica of the pilot signal produced by another phase-locked-loop and a frequency divider.

Abstract: A radio communication apparatus capable of varying the level of its transmission output, comprising a receiving circuit, a transmitting circuit, an amplifier (14), an extractor, a detector (33), a variable voltage converter (40) and a control circuit (21). The receiving circuit receives a signal from an opposite station such as a base station, and the transmitting circuit transmits a signal to the opposite station. The amplifier (14) amplifies the output signal obtained from the transmitter, and the extractor extracts data from the output signal of the receiving circuit so as to control the level of the transmission output. The detector (33) detects the level of the transmission output obtained from the amplifier (14), and the variable voltage converter (40) converts a source voltage into the operating voltage of the amplifier. And the control circuit (21) produces a control signal to control the magnitude of the operating voltage supplied from the variable voltage converter (40) to the amplifier in response to both the detection signal (V33) from the detector and the output signal (V31) from the extractor, and supplies the produced control signal (V32) to the variable voltage converter. The transmission output obtained from the amplifier is varied by changing the operating voltage supplied from the variable voltage converter to the amplifier.
