Regeneration and separation of catalysts Me(CO)(PR.sub.3).sub.2 Hal(I) and HMe(CO)(PR.sub.3).sub.3 (II), where Me is rhodium or iridium, Hal is halogen and R denotes the same or different hydrocarbon radicals, from distillation residues of hydroformylation mixtures by treating said residues with aqueous acids and peroxides, mixing the resulting Me salt solutions with water-soluble organic solvents and with a phosphine PR.sub.3 and, in the case of the preparation of compound I, with a hydrohalic acid or an alkali metal halide, reacting the solutions at from 0.degree. to 150.degree. C. and from 1 to 250 bars in case I with carbon monoxide or compounds eliminating carbon monoxide and in case II additionally with hydrogen, and separating the resulting compound I or II.

Provided herein are methods for producing α,β-unsaturated ketones from the condensation of methyl ketones in the presence of an amine catalyst. Such amine catalysts may be supported, for example, on a silica- alumina support. Such amine catalysts may be used in the presence of an additional acid. The α,β-unsaturated ketones may be produced by dimerization and/or trimerization of the methyl ketones. Such α,β-unsaturated ketones may be suitable for use in producing fuels, gasoline additives, and/or lubricants, or precursors thereof. The methyl ketones may be obtained from renewable sources, such as by the fermentation of biomass.

The invention describes phospho-amino pincer-type ligands, metal complexes thereof, and catalytic methods comprising such metal complexes for conversion of carbon dioxide to methanol, conversion of aldehydes into alcohols, conversion of aldehydes in the presence of a trifluoromethylation agent into trifluorinated secondary alcohols, cycloaddition of carbon dioxide to an epoxide to provide cyclic carbonates or preparation of an amide from the combination of an alcohol and an amine.

A composition having a substantial or material absence of or no phosphorous and comprising a support material, a metal compound and either a hydrocarbon oil or a polar additive or a combination of both a hydrocarbon oil and polar additive. The polar additive has particularly defined properties including having a dipole moment of at least 0.45. The composition is useful in the hydroprocessing of hydrocarbon feedstocks, and it is especially useful in the hydrotreating of vacuum gas oils and petroleum resid feedstocks.
