Polymers, particularly those used in pressure-sensitive adhesives, are prepared from a mixture of structural isomers of a secondary alkyl (meth)acrylate monomer. The adhesives are characterized by exhibiting an overall balance of adhesive and cohesive characteristics and exceptional adhesion to low surface energy substrates.
Abstract:
A process for forming an a,ß-unsaturated carbonyl halide in a microreactor is described. The reactants comprise an a,ß-unsaturated carboxylic acid, a halogenating agent, and a catalyst. A first inlet stream, a second inlet stream, and an optional third inlet stream flow into a reaction chamber of a flow-through microreactor to form a reaction product comprising an a,ß-unsaturated carbonyl halide.

The invention comprises compositions and methods useful for encapsulation and controlled release of guest molecules, such as drugs. Compositions of the present invention comprise a matrix comprising molecules that are non-covalently crosslinked by multi-valent cations, wherein the molecules that are non-covalently crosslinked are non-polymeric, have more than one carboxy functional group, and have at least partial aromatic or heteroaromatic character. The compositions are characterized in that a guest molecule may be encapsulated within the matrix and subsequently released.

A composition of matter comprises an aromatic cyanate ester silane comprising at least one cyanate ester group and at least one hydrolyzable silyl group. In the presence of a cyanate ester resin the aromatic cyanate ester silane acts as a coupling agent to improve the adhesion of the cyanate ester to a substrate. The curable compositions are useful as reinforced composites, and as adhesive and coating compositions.
