Abstract: PURPOSE: A carbon dioxide-based indicator using chitosan and a food packaging material including the same are provided to detect the partial pressure change of carbon dioxide in a head space and to visibly display the result of the detection. CONSTITUTION: A carbon dioxide-based indicator includes chitosan. When carbon dioxide is absorbed in the indicator, the indicator becomes transparent on the basis of chitosan. The indicator further includes a pigment. The color of the indicator becomes clear when carbon dioxide is absorbed in the indicator. A semi-permeable material forms the external surface of the indicator and penetrates air and blocks liquid. A food packaging material includes the indicator.
