Abstract:
A method for joining tubulars that includes preparing a fast-setting epoxy compound, wherein the preparing comprises: mixing a first micro-crystalline filler into an epoxidized glycerol fatty ester, mixing a titanium oxide, a first talc, and a flatting agent into the first mixture, mixing a hydrocarbon resin into the second mixture, and mixing a hardenable epoxide containing liquid to form an epoxy base. A second micro-crystalline filler, a second talc, and a glycidyl ether are mixed into a phthalocyanine, a hybrid reactive polyamide is mixed into this mixture, a modified aliphatic amine is mixed into the resulting mixture, and a methylamino accelerator is added to form an epoxy accelerator. Substantially equal portions of the epoxy base and the epoxy accelerator are mixed to form the fast-setting epoxy compound.
Abstract:
The present invention provides a water based friction control composition comprising a binder a rheological control agent, and optionally a lubricant. The liquid friction control composition may also comprise other components such as a wetting agent, a consistency modifier, and a preservative. The liquid friction control compositions may be used to modify the interfacial friction characteristics in sliding and rolling-sliding contact such as steel wheel-rail systems including mass transit and freight systems. A method of reducing lateral force, reducing energy consumption, or controlling friction between a metal surface and a second metal surface by applying the composition to metal surface, for example a top of rail or wheel, is also provided. The composition may be sprayed onto the rail surface.
Abstract:
The invention relates to a method of reducing the inhalation toxicity of functional fluids by incorporating into a functional fluid an effective amount of a copolymer which is obtainable by copolymerizing ethylene oxide, propylene oxide and/or butylene oxide with an initiator monool or diol, said copolymer having a degree of unsaturation of less than about 0.01 meq/g.
Abstract:
A lubricant for a run-flat tire system includes a water soluble, or water-miscible carrier, a thickener, and a surfactant. The thickener hereof retains its rheological properties and is not subject to permanent thinning shear. The base fluid is, preferably, a water-soluble polyhydroxyl or other polyhydric compound and the thickener is preferably a clay. When admixed with a surfactant and, optionally, a lubricity agent, the lubricant exhibits long term stability and (is resistant to heat buildup.) prevents the buildup of heat in the tire assembly when the tire is in the run flat condition.
Abstract:
A first treating agent for forming a protective coating which comprises water and, compounded therewith, an alkali silicate represented by the formula: M2O . nSiO2, wherein n represents a number of 2 to 9 and M represents at least one of Na, K, Li and NR4 where each R independently represents a hydrogen atom or an alkyl group a second treating agent comprising the first treating agent and a lubricating agent a metallic material having a protective coating formed by using the treating agent and a method for forming a protective coating which comprises using the treating agent. The second treating agent can form a coating film having excellent self-lubricating property. The treating agents can form a coating film having excellent anti-galling and rust preventive properties which is comparable or superior to those of a coating film formed through a chemical reaction of a metallic base material, by a simple and easy method wherein the treating agent is applied on the surface of a metallic material and then dried.
Abstract:
The invention provides composites of organic polymeric compositions including a matrix of an organic polymer and a filler distributed throughout the matrix, the filler being present in the matrix substantially as separate particles, each about the fundamental particle size of the filler. The fillers are unique mixed metal hydroxide compositions that are obtainable in sub-micron size particles. These particles are layered and have a BET specific surface area in excess of about 100 m /g. An anion of the particulates is selected to be compatible with the organic polymer thereby providing ease of dispersion of the filler particles throughout the polymer matrix.
Abstract:
A grease composition for use as a cable filling material which contains about 75 to 95 parts by weight of a base component of a polyol or ester having a molecular weight of at least about 3000 and about 2 to 20 parts by weight of colloidal particles such as silica. Optionally, an antioxidant component can be added to impart high temperature resistance or a rubber component can be added to improve bleed resistance. Also, an article of manufacture of a cable having a sheath with one of the grease compositions of the invention located therein, and a method for filling the cable with such grease compositions.
