Abstract: A scanning device is provided with a first transparent plate on which an original sheet to is placed, the original sheet being scanned statically, a reading unit arranged below the first transparent plate and configured to scan an image on the original sheet in the main scanning direction, the reading unit being movable in an auxiliary scanning direction, and a first reference member defining a reference position for scanning an image on the original sheet, in the main scanning direction and in the auxiliary scanning direction. The first reference member is arranged at an unused area of the first transparent plate, the unused area being an area which is within the original sheet placeable area on the first transparent plate and is not covered with original sheets of a plurality of predetermined different sizes placed on the first transparent plate with being positioned with respect to a predetermined positioning point.

Abstract: An original scanning apparatus is described that scans an original placed on an original placing plane line by line by moving a scanning unit including a plurality of light-receiving elements that are arranged in a prescribed direction in a direction perpendicular to the prescribed direction. The original scanning apparatus includes: a pattern unit that is provided in a vicinity of a side of the rectangular original placing plane extending along a moving direction of the scanning unit; a control unit configured to calculate drive information in the moving direction per line-scanning cycle of the scanning unit based on a result of scanning the pattern unit; and a driving circuit configured to feed back the calculated drive information so as to control the scanning unit to thereby drive the scanning unit in the moving direction.

Abstract: An image reading apparatus includes a reading unit, a control unit, and a pattern region. The reading unit moves a linear reading range, which is provided in a main scanning direction, in a sub-scanning direction that intersects with the main scanning direction while reading an object that faces the reading range, and generates image data on the basis of a read result. The control unit controls the reading unit. The pattern region includes a predetermined pattern that defines a reference position for specifying a reading position that is read by the reading unit. The predetermined pattern has a characteristic portion that specifies a schematic position of the predetermined pattern in the sub-scanning direction. The control unit includes a first image acquisition unit, a pattern searching unit, a second image acquisition unit, a characteristic portion searching unit, a first reprocessing instruction unit, and a second reprocessing instruction unit.

The servo control information is used for speed control and initial position detection of the carriage. The printed matter is provided on a rear or underside surface of a support structure in areas irradiated by a light source for the image sensor. The optical scanner has a photosensitive apparatus with a set of scan photosensitive devices and a storage apparatus. When the object is scanned by the set of scan photosensitive devices, a scanned image is obtained and saved in the storage apparatus temporarily. The compensation apparatus has a set of calibration boards, a set of calibration photosensitive devices and an image processor. The set of calibration boards has two calibration boards located at two sides of the platform. The set of calibration photosensitive devices is located at two sides of the set of scan photosensitive device. The image processor is used to extract and compare the calibrated image, so as to adjust the scanned image.
