Abstract: To address the technical problem of varying gain applied to different hearing impaired (HI) patients, a technical solution described herein includes application of a patient-specific noise reduction algorithm based on a patient-specific signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) loss function. HI patients vary in their ability to extract information in a given signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) environment. However, noise reduction algorithms often include a single noise reduction function for all SNR loss functions. For a HI patient with significant SNR-loss, they will receive little noise reduction in SNR conditions where the patient gains no benefit from the sound. Technical solutions described herein includes determining a HI patient's ability to extract information for various SNR values, and then using specific NR algorithm attenuation for specific SNR values according to the HI patient's determined ability to extract information.

Abstract: Embodiments herein relate to hearing assistance systems and methods for use with assistive listening device systems. In a first aspect, a hearing assistance system is included having an ear-worn device can include a control circuit, a sensor package in signal communication with the control circuit, a power supply circuit in electrical communication with the control circuit, and a spatial locator circuit in communication with the ear-worn device. The spatial locator circuit can detect a current spatial location. The system can compare the current spatial location against entries in a database of spatial locations that offer assistive listening device services. The system can send a notification to the ear-worn device and/or ear-worn device wearer if the current spatial location is found in the database of spatial locations that offer assistive listening device services. Other embodiments are also included herein.

Abstract: A user interface for determining a setting of a hearing instrument is disclosed. The user interface allows a user to configure a hearing instrument using control indicators and markers that may he manipulated. The hearing instruments may reference a mapping that links marker values to hearing thresholds with respect to particular frequency bands. Processors of the hearing instruments or of computing devices paired to a hearing instrument may use the hearing thresholds of a user identified across multiple frequency bands to determine a setting for configuring the hearing instruments.

Abstract: An ear-worn electronic device comprises a housing configured to be supported by, at, in or on an ear of a wearer. Electronic circuitry is disposed in the housing and comprises a processor. A power source and a receiver or a speaker are respectively disposed in or on the housing. A microphone array is disposed in or on the housing and operatively coupled to the electronic circuitry. The microphone array comprises a plurality of microphones. The processor is configured to operate a set of two or more of the microphones in a directional mode, detect degradation in performance of any microphone of the microphone set, and switch microphone operation from the directional mode to a safe mode using at least one non-degraded microphone of the microphone set in response to detecting the microphone performance degradation.

Abstract: A hearing device may include an earpiece, and ear-tip suspension element disposed in the earpiece, a solenoid actuator, and a controller. The earpiece and the ear-tip suspension element may include passageways that connect to form a vent through the earpiece. The solenoid actuator may include a solenoid and a core. The core may be movable between an open position and a closed position to open and close the vent. The controller may include one or more processors and may be operably coupled to the solenoid actuator to control movement of the core between the open and closed position. The controller may be configured to move the core using the solenoid based on at least a listening environment of the hearing device.

Abstract: A computing system receives data from one or more hearing instruments. Additionally, the computing system determines, based on the data received from the one or more hearing instruments, a heart health measure for a user of the one or more hearing instruments. The heart health measure is an indication of one or more aspects of a health of a heart of the user. The computing system may output an indication of the heart health measure.

Abstract: A computing device is described that obtains a representation of a target ear canal of a user. Using a machine-learned model that has been trained based at least in part on representations of previously fabricated ear-wearable devices, the computing device generates a representation of an ear-wearable device for the target ear canal.

Abstract: Various embodiments of a hearing device and a system of using such device are disclosed. The hearing device includes a housing, electronic components disposed within the housing, and an earpiece adapted to be disposed in an ear canal of the ear of the wearer. The device also includes a sensor adapted to be in contact with a portion of the ear of the wearer, where the sensor is further adapted to detect a physiological characteristic of the wearer and generate a sensor signal based on the physiological characteristic that is received by a controller of the electronic components disposed within the housing; and a cable that operatively connects the sensor to the earpiece, where the cable is biased to maintain contact between the sensor and the portion of the ear of the wearer when the earpiece is disposed in the ear canal of the wearer.
