Abstract: An automatic power control (APC) system and methods in a code-division-multiple-access (CDMA) system employing spread-spectrum modulation. The CDMA system has a base station (BS), and a plurality of subscriber units. A CDMA subscriber unit includes means for spreading an access channel signal, means for spreading a pilot signal, means for respectively adjusting a signal power of the spread access channel signal and the spread pilot signal, and means for combining the adjusted access channel signal and spread pilot signals to produce a reverse CDMA signal. The CDMA subscriber unit may include means for receiving a power control signal and means for adjusting a signal power of the adjusted access channel signal and spread pilot signals.

Abstract: Método para reducir la interferencia en un receptor CDMA de secuencia directa teniendo N canales, el método comprendiendo: a) desexpandir una señal de espectro expandido recibida para cada pluralidad de canales CDMA para producir una primera estimación para cada canal; b) para cada canal, expandir la estimación obtenida del paso anterior para todos los otros canales para producir señales expandidas de los otros canales y cancelar parcialmente N-1 canales de interferencia sustrayendo las señales expandidas de los otros canales de la señal recibida y desexpandir el resultado sustraído para producir una siguiente estimación para ese canal; c) repetir el paso b) un número seleccionado de veces; y estando caracterizado por: d) combinar las estimaciones para cada canal producidas por los pasos a), b) y c) para emitir una señal de canal para cada canal.

Abstract: The invention provides a spread spectrum communication system for maintaining an initial transmit power level of a communication station during periods of inactivity. The system comprises a first station (501) and a second station (502), the initial transmit power level of which is maintained, wherein the first station generates an automatic power control signal by comparing a measured noise power level in a communication channel and an estimated system transmit power level and the second station occasionally transmits a spread spectrum signal whilst in an inactive state and receives the automatic power control signal to adjust an initial transmit power level thereof.
