Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communications are described that allow secondary cell (SCell) beam failure recovery using a primary cell (PCell). A user equipment (UE) may transmit, via the PCell, an indication of a beam failure of the SCell in a scheduling request (SR) or in a dedicated SR message. After receiving the indication, the base station may request a report from the UE or alternatively, may monitor a set of resources for a report without transmitting a request to the UE. The report may be transmitted via the PCell and may include an indication of a selected beam to use for subsequent communications on the SCell. Based on the report, the base station may modify its transmission configuration for the SCell and communicate with the UE via the selected beam.

Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communications are described that provide for power control for dual connectivity. A UE may identify a power control configuration that determines priorities for uplink transmissions over multiple component carriers and one or more base stations. The UE may identify a union of semi-static uplink or flexible transmissions between multiple component carriers employed by one cell group, such as a master cell group and a secondary cell group, and determine a configured power level for the cell group. The UE may then determine whether to transmit an uplink transmission on a cell of another cell group, based on the power control configuration and the configured power level.

Abstract: Apparatus, methods, and computer-readable media for providing improved power efficiency during DRX wake-up are disclosed. An example method of wireless communication at a UE includes receiving a WUS from a base station while performing a DRX cycle, the WUS indicating data for transmission to the UE. The example method also includes at least one receiving a downlink reference signal or transmitting an uplink reference signal based on the WUS and prior to reception of the data, the uplink reference signal transmitted or the downlink reference signal received during an on-duration of the DRX cycle and in response to receiving the WUS. The example method also includes sending a CSI report to the base station based on the WUS and prior to the receiving of the data. The example method also includes receiving the data following the respective receiving or transmitting of the downlink reference signal or uplink reference signal.

Abstract: Methods and apparatuses are described in which an unlicensed spectrum is used for Long Term Evolution (LTE) communications. A first method includes generating a first single carrier frequency division multiple access (SC-FDMA) physical uplink shared channel (PUSCH) signal from the UE using at least one interleaved signal, wherein each interleaved signal of the at least one interleaved signal occupies a set of non-consecutive frequency resources such that each frequency resource in the set is separated from a neighboring frequency resource in the set by a fixed number of frequency resources outside of the set, and wherein the at least one interleaved signal increases nominal bandwidth occupancy in an unlicensed spectrum relative to a non-interleaved signal; and transmitting the generated first SC-FDMA PUSCH signal from the UE in the unlicensed spectrum, wherein the first SC FDMA PUSCH signal from the UE is transmitted in the unlicensed spectrum concurrently with a second SC-FDMA signal from the UE in a licensed spectrum.

The apparatus may receive, through a random access response message from the base station, information including the number of attempts the base station uses to decode the RACH preamble. The apparatus may adjust the transmission power for the connection request message according to the number of attempts the base station uses to decode the RACH preamble. The apparatus may transmit the connection request message using the adjusted transmission power.

Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communication are described. A user equipment (UE) may identify a number of beam directions that satisfy a transmission power condition. The UE may select a beam direction for a random access signal by choosing one of the beam directions that satisfies additional criteria, such as transmitting a random access message at the next opportunity. The transmission power may be selected based on a target receive power and a path loss for the selected beam. In some cases, if the sum of the path loss for a beam direction and the target receive power exceeds a maximum transmission power by more than a predetermined amount, the random access signal will not be transmitted using that beam. In some cases, if a response to the random access is not received, a different beam direction may be selected, the transmission power may be increased, or both.
