PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a reversible multicolor recording medium having clear color developing and erasing properties and a contrast and capable of repeatedly performing recording and erasure, and a recording method using the same. SOLUTION: In the reversible multicolor recording medium having such a structure that recording layers 11-13 are laminated to be formed on a support substrate 1 in the surface direction of the substrate 1, the recording layers 11-13 contain photothermal conversion materials which absorb infrared rays of different wavelength regions to generate heat, coloring compounds and developing/subtractive agents. The chemical structure related to each of the developing/tone-reducing agents is specified, and excellent color developing and erasing characteristics, contrast and fineness are realized to enhance recording sensitivity. PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a reversible multicolor thermosensitive recording medium, which has a clear contrast with no color fogging and no color degradation develops even after repeated recording and erasion. SOLUTION: Recording layers 11-13, each of which includes one of a plurality of the reversible thermosensitive color developing compositions having developing color tones different from one another, are separatingly and laminatingly formed to the planar direction of a supporting board 1 under the condition that a plurality of the reversible thermosensitive color developing compositions each includes a photothermally converting material generating heat through the absorption of infrared radiation in wavelength ranges different from one another. The layer formed the nearest to the supporting board 1 has the longest absorption peak wavelength among those of the photothermally converting materials included in the recording layers 11-13. SOLUTION: The display medium has a recording layer 12 on a substrate 11 and a plurality of fine gap members 14 each having a gap in the internal part thereof are arranged in the recording layer 12. Colored magnetic particles 21 to 23 are dispersed in a hot-melt organic compound 25 which shows a solid state at ordinary temperature in the internal part of the fine gap members 14.
