Abstract:
Steel strips and methods for producing steel strips are provided. In an illustrated embodiment, a method includes continuously casting molten low carbon steel into a strip (12) and hot rolling (15) the cast strip within a temperature range such that the strip passes through the Ar3 transformation temperature from austenite to ferrite under strain during rolling (15), thereby producing a strip (12) having a yield strength above 400Mpa and an elongation in excess of 30%. The cast steel strip has desired microstructures.

The invention concerns a method for making carbon steel bands, in particular packaging steel bands, which consists in: casting in the form of a thin steel band between 0.7 and 10 mm thick, directly from molten metal, steel having a composition adapted for use as packaging steel; hot rolling in-line said band, ending in the austenitic domain of said steel; forced cooling of said band at a speed of 80 to 400 DEG C/s ending in the ferritic domain of said steel; cold rolling said band at a reduction ratio of less than 85 % at least; and annealing said band. The invention also concerns a steel band, in particular for packaging, characterised in that it is obtainable by said above method.

The invention relates to a method for producing steel strip using a strip casting machine (1a) or thin slab casting system (1b) connected to hot-rolling stands (10). Strip-processing devices (7, 13, 14, 15) are positioned downstream of the strip casting machine (1a) or thin slab casting system (1b) connected to hot-rolling stands (10). These devices carry out stretch levelling and/or cleaning and/or pickling and/or annealing and/or reduction by cold forming and/or coating and/or skin pass rolling and/or trimming. The invention also relates to a method for producing steel strip by strip casting or thin slab casting in connection with hot rolls. According to said method the method for producing the hot-rolled strip is combined with strip-processing methods, especially stretch levelling and/or cleaning and/or pickling and/or annealing and/or reduction by cold forming and/or coating and/or skin pass rolling and/or trimming, to yield a continuous global method.
