    Abstract: An AC-powerable portable computer has an interior sheet metal chassis portion (30) within which computer operating components are operatively disposed. The chassis has a removable metal access wall portion (40) and is positioned within a plastic outer housing (12) of the computer having a removable access wall (18) that outwardly overlies the sheet metal access wall portion. A key-operable security locking system (80) incorporated in the computer has a pawl portion (88) positioned within the sheet metal chassis. The pawl is selectively movable to a locking position in which it interlocks with each of the plastic and sheet metal access walls and precludes their normal removal from the computer. When the plastic and sheet metal access walls are locked to the computer in this manner, entry into the chassis interior requires that the plastic access wall be broken, and that the metal access wall be forcibly bent away from the balance of the chassis structure. Accordingly, the access walls cannot be reinstalled on the computer without leaving readily visible evidence of the forcible entry into the computer. The locking system thus provides a dual barrier to unauthorized physical entry into the chassis, and visually alerts the legitimate user of the computer that a break-in has been attempted or achieved.

    Abstract: Method for manufacturing a sidewall actuatable, high density channel array for an ink jet printhead. A first surface of a main body portion formed from an inactive material is conductively bonded to a first surface of a first intermediate body portion formed from an active material. A plurality of parallel grooves are then machined through the first intermediate body portion and part of the main body portion to form a plurality of channels separated by a corresponding plurality of sidewall actuators comprised of a first sidewall section formed from an inactive material and a second sidewall section formed from an active material. A top body portion is then conductively mounted to the intermediate body portion.

    Abstract: A sidewall actuated channel array for a high density ink jet printhead. The sidewall actuator (28) includes a top wall (16), a bottom wall (12) and at least one elongated liquid confining channel (18) defined by the top wall (16), the bottom wall (12) and sidewalls (30,32). The actuator sidewall is comprised of a first actuator sidewall section (32) formed of a piezoelectric material poled in a first direction perpendicular to a first channel (18) and attached to the top wall (16), a second actuator sidewall section (30) attached to the first sidewall section (32) and the bottom wall (12), and means for applying an electric field across the first actuator sidewall section (32) and perpendicular to the direction of polarization. When the electric field is applied across the first sidewall section (32), the actuator sidewall engages in a motion which produces an ink ejecting pressure pulse in the channel (18).

    Abstract: A capacitor mounting structure for printed circuit boards wherein the capacitor includes first and second terminals (15a,15b) which are connected to first and second conductor planes (44,45) in the printed circuit board (B). Three vias (41,42,43) are mounted in the printed circuit board (B) in a position to be aligned with the middle of the capacitor. A first conductor pad (45) is mounted underneath one end of the capacitor and includes spaced apart extension portions (45b,45c) which electrically attach to the first (41) and third via (43). A second conductor pad (44) is mounted under the other end of the capacitor and includes a central extension portion (44b) which attaches to the second or middle via (42). In this manner, the region available for generation of parasitic inductance is minimized thereby increasing the operating efficiency of the capacitor.
