Abstract:
Phosphorus-containing ligands are recovered from mixtures comprising 3-pentenenitrile (3PN) and adiponitrile (ADN), using liquid-liquid extraction. ADN is produced by hydrocyanation of 3PN. The ADN is hydrogenated to produce a hexamethyiene diamine (HMD) and at least one byproduct including bis-hexamethylene triamine (BHMT) or 1,2-diaminocyclohexane. At least a portion of the HMD product or byproduct is used to enhance the liquid-liquid extraction to recover phosphorus-containing ligand.
Abstract:
This document describes biochemical pathways for producing isoprene by forming two vinyl groups in a central precursor produced from isobutyryl-CoA, 3-methyl-2-oxopentanoate, or 4-methyl-2-oxopentanoate as well as recombinant hosts for producing isoprene.
Abstract:
Disclosed are spray-on anti-soil formulations, and methods for treating fibers, carpets, and fabrics with the same. The anti-soil formulations comprise a synergistic blend of an anti-soil component and a stain blocker component adapted to be sprayed-on a fiber, carpet, or fabric instead of known exhaust applications. The anti-soil component can be either fluorochemical or non-fluorochemical based, while the stain blocker can comprise any chemical that blocks positively charged dye sites. Fibers, carpets and fabrics treated with the anti-soil formulations exhibit superior anti-soil characteristics compared to sprayed-on fluorochemicals and exhibit similar anti-soil characteristics compared to known exhaust applications.
Abstract:
This document describes a process for the high purity and high concentration recovery of monovalent products via continuous ion exchange from aqueous solution for further downstream purification.
Abstract:
Embodiments of the present invention relate to methods for the biosynthesis of di- or trifunctional C7 alkanes in the presence of isolated enzymes or in the presence of a recombinant host cell expressing those enzymes. The di- or trifunctional C7 alkanes are useful as intermediates in the production of nylon-7, nylon-7,x, nylon-x,7, and polyesters.
Abstract:
In the hydrocyanation reaction of butadiene proceeding through pentenenitriles to adiponitrile, catalysis by complexes of zerovalent nickel with bidentate phosphorus-based ligands of the NiL2A type wherein L2 is a bidentate ligand and A is an unsaturated compound, can be rate-limited by the solubility of the catalytic complex. The present invention concerns solvent compositions for the nickel-ligand complex comprising mixtures of unsaturated nitriles that provide for increased metal solubility, particularly in the absence of a Lewis acid promoter, resulting in higher hydrocyanation reaction rates in an industrial-scale process for production of important nylon manufacturing intermediates. The mixed nitrile solvent compositions can include mixtures of pentenenitriles and/or methylbutenenitriles. The mixtures of mixed unsaturated nitriles can be, at least in part, from recycle streams from the hydrocyanation reaction for which the nickel-bidentate ligand complexes are used as catalysts.
Abstract:
A method of winding bulked continuous filament yarn is disclosed, which enables superior yarn package formation, including higher density packages with excellent shape and yarn takeoff characteristics. The method uses unique helix angles and winding profiles in a non-adjacent and adjacent yarn pattern, achieved by a unique winding control strategy that constantly monitors spindle speed, desired wind ratio, traverse cam speed, and surface speed.
Abstract:
A woven fabric comprising a base yarn and a secondary yarn, wherein the secondary yarn is interwoven into the base yarn, and wherein the secondary yarn has a melting point that is lower than the melting point of base yarn. Also disclosed is a method of making a base yarn and a secondary yarn, wherein the secondary yarn is interwoven into the base yarn, and wherein the secondary yarn has a melting point that is lower than the melting point of base yarn.
