Abstract: A system can include a mold for performing during a liquid composite molding process. The mold can receive a fiber material comprising a plurality of fibers, at least some fibers coated with MXene to form a fabric sensor. The system can include a sensor system for measuring piezo-resistance of the fabric sensor when the fiber material is mounted in the mold during a molding process of an item in the mold. The system can include a computing device linked to the sensor system. The computing device can include a processor and a memory. The memory can include instructions that are executable by the processor for causing the processor to: responsive to receiving a plurality of measurements of current values associated with the fabric sensor from the sensor system, determining compaction forces associated with the liquid composite molding process.

Abstract: A supernumerary robotic limb (SRL) system can include a plurality of rigid links, a joint that connects one rigid link to another rigid link in the plurality of rigid arms, and two variable stiffness actuators (VSAs) configured to drive the plurality of rigid links in order to complete at least one task. The VSAs can include an input link configured to provide kinetic energy for the output link. The VSAs can include a dynamic chassis configured to connect with the input link. Additionally, the VSAs can include a stiffness adjustor included in the dynamic chassis and configured to adjust an elastic transmission between at least one elastic element of the set of elastic elements and the output link.

Additionally, the method can include generating an analog signal by performing measurements across remaining pairs of electrodes of the plurality of electrodes during the excitation cycle. The method can include generating the digital signal based on an analog to digital conversion of the analog signal. Further, the method can include extracting, during the excitation cycle, features based on the digital signal. The method can include generating an ET image associated with the object based on the features.

Abstract: A method of forming an ophthalmic contact lens may include the steps of preparing a first resin mixture including HEMA, PEGDA and a photoinitiator, preparing a second resin mixture including HEMA, PEGDA, a photoinitiator, and a pH sensitive dye, forming a first layer of the contact lens using an additive manufacturing apparatus by dispensing and curing the first resin mixture, and forming a second layer of the contact lens onto the first layer using the additive manufacturing apparatus by dispensing and curing the dispensed second resin mixture onto an outer surface of the first layer. A ratio of HEMA to PEGDA is higher in the second resin mixture than the first resin mixture and a volume of photoinitiator in the second resin mixture is less than the is less than a volume of photoinitiator in the second resin mixture. An ophthalmic contact lens configured to treat CVD is also provided.

Abstract: A liquid desalination system is disclosed. The liquid desalination system includes a feed line having an inlet to receive liquid and an outlet to discharge the liquid. The liquid desalination system includes a magnet coupled to the feed line, the magnet to generate an oscillating magnetic field within the feed line and in opposition to the feed water flow. The removal of targeted ions can be achieved by manipulating the frequency and rate of the generated electromagnetic waves. The generated electromagnetic waves can be tuned to weaken the hydration bonds of that specific ion and facilitate its removal. The liquid desalination system generates an electric field across the feed line to enable the liquid to flow through the electric field. The electric field may attract sodium ions to a positive electrode and may attract chloride ions to a negative electrode, to desalinate the liquid in the feed line.

Abstract: This invention relates to methods and devices for detection of motion. Embodiments of the invention provide a method of detecting motion of an object using a wireless transceiver device, the method including the steps of: transmitting wireless signals from a transmitter element in the transceiver device, the signals being reflected by the object; receiving the signals reflected by the object in a receiver element in the transceiver device; estimating at least one channel characteristic from the reflected signals; applying a time and/or frequency domain analysis to the estimated channel characteristic; detecting any variation in the estimated channel characteristic over time; and detecting motion of the object based on the detected variation. A wireless transceiver device arranged to detect motion is also provided.
