Abstract:
Systems, methods, and devices for evaluating proper cement installation in a well are provided. In one example, a method includes receiving acoustic cement evaluation data parameterized using a first parameterization. A subset of the acoustic cement evaluation data is compared to expected nominal values of the acoustic cement evaluation data. When the subset of the acoustic cement evaluation data does not substantially conform to the expected nominal values of the acoustic cement evaluation data, all or part of the acoustic cement evaluation data is corrected to cause the subset of the acoustic cement evaluation data to more closely match the expected nominal values of the acoustic cement evaluation data. The corrected acoustic cement evaluation data may be used to estimate a presence of solids, liquids, and/or gases behind the casing.

A bearing assembly for a drilling tool. A thrust bearing assembly for use in a drilling tool may include a first thrust frame having a generally cylindrical hollow body with a first inner surface, where the first thrust frame includes: (i) first flow diverters protruding laterally from the first inner surface toward a longitudinal axis of the thrust bearing assembly and (ii) first flow ports formed along the first inner surface between adjacent first flow diverters. The thrust bearing assembly may also include a stationary thrust bearing having a generally cylindrical base with legs extending in an axial direction from the base, where the legs may be generally positioned within the first flow ports.
Abstract:
A radiation generator includes an insulator, with an ion source carried within the insulator and configured to generate ions and indirectly generate undesirable particles. An extractor electrode is carried within the insulator downstream of the ion source and has a first potential. An intermediate electrode is carried within the insulator downstream of the extractor electrode at a ground potential and is shaped to capture the undesirable conductive particles. In addition, a suppressor electrode is carried within the insulator downstream of the intermediate electrode and has a second potential opposite in sign to the first potential. A target is carried within the insulator downstream of the suppressor electrode. The extractor electrode and the suppressor electrode have a voltage therebetween such that an electric field generated in the insulator accelerates the ions generated by the ion source toward the target.

Systems, apparatuses and methods for neural network signal processing of microseismic events. A series of sensors are disposable in at least one first well positioned about a second well disposed in a subterranean formation. The series of sensors obtain a data signal measurement including noise events and microseismic acoustic emission events. A processor includes a first neural network. The processor may remove the noise events from the data signal measurement and determine with the first neural network an arrival time for each microseismic acoustic emission event. An interface can output the arrival time for each microseismic acoustic emission event.

An electric submersible pump (ESP) can include a shaft; an electric motor configured to rotatably drive the shaft; a housing; a stack of diffusers disposed in the housing; impellers disposed in the housing and operatively coupled to the shaft; and a proximity sensor operatively coupled to the housing.
Abstract:
Systems, methods, and devices for compensating for environmental conditions on electromagnetic measurements are provided. For example, a downhole logging tool may include a first transmitter coil, a second transmitter coil, and a first receiver coil. The first transmitter coil may provide a first magnetic signal in a wellbore having a conductive casing. The second transmitter coil may provide a second magnetic signal in the wellbore. The first receiver may obtain a first measurement relating to the first magnetic signal and a second measurement relating to the second magnetic signal. The first receiver coil may be near enough to the first transmitter coil and the second transmitter coil to obtain measurements predominantly in the near field eddy current regime. A ratio of the first measurement and the second measurement may cancel environmental dependencies of the first receiver coil.
Abstract:
Apparatus and methods are described for microwave heating of hydrocarbon fluid inside a resonant cavity that supports resonance of microwave radiation at one or more resonant frequencies. The hydrocarbon fluid is loaded into a pipe realized from a material primarily transparent to the microwave radiation. The pipe is configured to extend through the resonant cavity and to enter and exit the resonant cavity. Microwave radiation supplied to the resonant cavity, the resonant cavity itself, and the pipe can be configured to heat hydrocarbon fluid loaded into the pipe to a reaction temperature suitable for visbreaking of the hydrocarbon fluid. The reaction temperature can be in the range of 350°C to 500°C, which is suitable for visbreaking of heavy oil. The pipe can be configured to provide pressurized flow of the hydrocarbon fluid through the pipe during heating such that it remains in a liquid phase.

Systems, sensors, and methods for high-speed image monitoring of baseplate movement in a vibrator. The systems can include a baseplate defined by an area, disposable at a ground surface to direct a seismic force into the ground surface. The system can include a reaction mass coupled to and positioned above the baseplate to generate the seismic force at the baseplate. The system can include an actuator assembly coupled to the reaction mass to vibrate the reaction mass, as well as high-speed image units directed at the area of the baseplate. The high-speed image units can include photo detectors to sense a distribution of acceleration across the area of the baseplate, and a light source emit light to be sensed by the photo detectors. The system can also include a controller coupled to the actuator assembly, that drives the actuator assembly.
