Abstract: The present invention relates to substituted 1 2 5 oxadiazole compounds of the formula (I) and the N oxides and salts thereof and to compositions comprising the same. Also provided is a method of indentifying a nucleotide sequence encoding a mut-HPPD which is resistant or tolerate to a N-heterocyclyl-arylcarboxamide, as well as transgenic plants having increased resistance or tolerance to a N-heterocyclyl-arylcarboxamide as compared to a wild-type variety of the plant cell.
