Abstract:
An apparatus for the quantitative determination of chlorine in a fluid environment, comprising a flat ion exchange membrane-based sensor which utilizes a layer (58) of an electrochemically inert hydrated salt or combination of such salts to provide water for the reduction of such chlorine to chloride ion, and the detection of chlorine by such reduction.
Abstract:
Polyazole-based polymer membranes, such as polyoxadiazole or -triazole-based membranes, are disclosed. The membranes are useful in gas separation and reverse osmosis processes. The gas separation membranes of the present invention exhibit improved methane separation factors, whereas the reverse osmosis membranes present high chlorine resistance as well as a salt rejection of at least 99 percent.
Abstract:
A method and apparatus for rapidly and continuously sampling AC voltage and current signals in a plurality of power distribution circuits. The sampled signals are then analyzed in a sine board computer to derive the number of fundamental electrical variables. These variables include frequency, RMS volts, RMS amps and a phase angular relationship between the voltage and currents in the system. The computer also performs calibration and compensation functions. From these fundamental variables, other useful parameters can be calculated such as watts, watt-hours, VARS, and power factor.
Abstract:
The present invention relates to nonlinear optical materials comprising aminoaryl hydrazones and to nonlinear optical polymeric compositions containing recurring covalently bonded moieties derived from the aminoaryl hydrazones of the invention. The polymeric compositions of the present invention have high glass transition temperatures and exhibit stable nonlinear optical activity at high temperatures over a period of time.
Abstract:
An adhesive latex composition which is water-insoluble when dried comprising: A) a pressure sensitive adhesive latex which is alkali-dispersible when dried, such as a copolymer of n-butyl acrylate, methacrylic acid and hydroxyethyl acrylate; B) a pressure sensitive adhesive latex which is non-alkali-dispersible when dried, such as n-butyl acrylate based copolymer latex, and, optionally, one or more tackifiers. The tackifier, if used, may be a mixture of at least one tackifier having a softening point of less than 55 C and at least one tackifier having a softening point between 55 C and 150 C. Paper containing the water-insoluble adhesive latex composition can be readily recycled into good quality paper.
Abstract:
Aromatic compounds such as ethylbenzene and styrene are produced by contacting butadiene or 4-vinylcyclohexene in a flow reactor with a magnesium oxide, zinc oxide, calcium oxide, strontium oxide, or barium oxide. The products of the process contain low levels of xylene.
Abstract:
Optical storage media based on ablative metals give improved stability and offer improved write-read characteristics when they are overcoated with inorganic oxide, nitride, carbide, hydride, oxynitride or carbohydride to a reflectivity of 40-80 % at the media write/read wavelength. Preferably the metal and overcoat are applied by sputter-depositing.
Abstract:
An intelligent front-end communication system which is interposed between a plurality of actively redundant process control computers and a computer network. The intelligent front end communication system includes at least one front end computer which is coupled to the computer network, and a serial communication interface which is coupled between the actively redundant process control computers and the front end computer. The serial communication interface transmits sequential sets of dynamic data from the actively redundant process control computers to the front end computer. The front end computer includes a plurality of reflective or shadow memory buffers for storing and time aligning corresponding sets of dynamic data which are asynchronously received from the serial communication interface.
Abstract:
A process for coagulating a polybenzazole film which includes contacting a lyotropic polybenzazole dope film that is constrained in at least two directions with a coagulant under conditions such that the polybenzazole polymer separates as a gelled moiety with the structure set such that further removal of solvent will result in no more than a 5 percent increase in the force necessary to constrain the film.
Abstract:
A group of functionalized polyaminocarboxamide modified chelators that form complexes with rare earth-type metal ions are disclosed. The complexes, covalently attached to an antibody or antibody fragment, can be used for therapeutic and/or diagnostic purposes.
