    Abstract: A power operating system for opening and closing a vehicle liftgate (12) has a pair of drive units (22, 22') supported on the vehicle roof and connected to the liftgate (12) for opening and closing the liftgate (12). Each drive unit (22, 22') includes a housing (38, 60) having a curved track (80) and a curved gear rack (48) that is bodily movable endwise in the housing (38, 60) and guided by the curved track (80), the rack (48) also serving as the drive link between the housing (38, 60) and the liftgate (12). The combined rack and drive link is extended and retracted by a pinion gear (40) that is journalled interiorly in the housing and engages the teeth of the curved gear rack (48). The pinion gear (40) is rotated by the output shaft (62) of the motor (24), which in turn is fastened to the side of the housing (38, 60). The motor (24) is a reversible electric motor and is adapted to be operably coupled to the vehicle ECU unit and preferably includes an internal transmission and electrically operated clutch controlled by the ECU unit.

    Abstract: The invention relates to the control of the movement of a sliding or swinging and sliding door (1) in its end closing area (x).     Abstract: A drive suitable for a door or gate operator mechanism has a motor (1) and a gear box (5). The gear box (5) has a drive disengaging means (29) therein which can be pulled by a chord (7) to effect drive engagement of the motor (1) with the gear box (5). When the chord (7) is next pulled drive disengagement of the motor (1) with the gear box (5) is provided. The arrangement permits a door or gate which is driven by the operator to be manually opened in the event of power failure. The mechanical advantage of the gearbox (5) and the motor (1) on the door or gate is such that the gate cannot be manually opened without the drive being disengaged.

    Abstract: An operator for moving a barrier between closed and open positions mounted on, or close to, the counterbalance for said barrier. The operator is connected to the counterbalance shaft and lifts the barrier by rotating the counterbalance shaft with attached cable drums and thereby takes up cable connected to the bottom of the door. There is an upper cable connected to the top of the door through a cable drum in the operator. A power spring biases the operator cable drum to always take up the upper cable, keeping it wound. The operator cable drum is connected to the motor through a clutch which when engaged allows the operator to pull the door closed. While the door is closing the clutch can be disengaged to allow the operator cable drum to take up and then pay out the upper cable connected to the top of the door as needed.

    Abstract: A control device is used to move a pick-up truck tailgate. The control device comprises a first gear arrangement connected to a drive cup and a second gear arrangement that is connected to a motor for driving the second gear arrangement. The control device also includes a clutch arrangement positioned between the first and second gear arrangements. When the clutch arrangement is in an engaged position, it couples the first gear arrangement and the second gear arrangement to transmit torque to the first gear arrangement and the drive cup. When the clutch arrangement is in the disengaged position, the first and second gear arrangements are not coupled. Optionally, the control device comprises a brake unit to slow or stop movement of the tailgate. The control device can be positioned within the pick-up truck tailgate.
