Abstract:
A communication structure and method which allows connection-like and connectionless communications to be provided on a multiplexed link is provided. The structure and method can make efficient use of available transmission capacity and/or network resources while providing both types of communication and hybrids. Connection-like communications can be provided by a channel having located transmission capacity dedicated to the communication while connectionless communications can be provided by a shared channel through which data can be transmitted to subscribers. In an embodiment, the shared channel transmits frames of packets addressed to one or more of the subscribers. The allocation of transmission capacity between the dedicated channels and the shared channel can be fixed, or can be managed to meet network or network operator requirements. The structure and method can also be managed by the network operator to permit prioritization of some communciations over others. In another embodiment, two or more shared channels are provided in addition to the dedicated channels.
Abstract:
A communication structure and method which allows connection-like and connectionless communications to be provided on a multiplexed link is provided. The structure and method can make efficient use of available transmission capacity and/or network resources while providing both types of communication and hybrids. Connection-like communications can be provided by a dedicated code division multiplexed channels having allocated transmission capacity dedicated to the communication while connectionless communication can be provided by a shared orthogonal frequency division multiplexed channel through which data can be transmitted to subscribers. In an embodiment, the shared channel transmits inverse fast fourier transformed frequency sub-bands allocated to one or more of the subscribers. The allocation of the sub-bands can be fixed, or dynamically quantized or proportional.
Abstract:
A method which allows a callee and/or a caller to be billed for telecommunications and which permits notice of charges to be provided to callers, and permits acceptance of charges by callers, prior to completing a connection is disclosed. The invention allows callees to define charges to be applied to calls they receive to be credited to their billing account and/or to waive such charges for some callers and/or in some time periods. Additional information can also be supplied to a caller before the call is completed to the callee, such as an identification of a difference in time zones between the caller and the callee.
Abstract:
A method, system and apparatus for determining a block format to be used to transmit a block of data over a channel to a receiver by collecting a series of reception-quality measurements, determining the rate of change of the reception-quality or the rate at which retransmission requests are being made, and, depending upon the magnitude of the rate of change or the rate of retransmission requests, either: averaging the lowest portion of the reception-quality measurements during the time-series and determining the block format based upon the average; or determining the block format based upon the most recent reception-quality measurements.
Abstract:
The present invention provides a novel feed forward amplifier ("FFA") and a pilot tone generator-receiver therefor. In an embodiment of the invention, the feed forward amplifier only requires a single oscillator to operate both the pilot tone generator and pilot tone receiver used in conjunction with the amplifier circuitry of the FFA. In another embodiment of the invention, a method is provided of generating and detecting a pilot tone from a single oscillating signal.
Abstract:
An apparatus and method for operating a feed-forward amplifier in which, after the signal-cancellation and intermodulation-cancellation loops have initially been nulled, the feed-forward amplifier is operated so that both loops are controlled so as to minimize intermodulation at the output of the feed-forward amplifier.
Abstract:
The present invention is a telecommunication system, comprising of at least one base station connected to a telecommunication network, a plurality of subscriber stations each cooperating with the base station to establish a connection between a user device operably connected to the subscriber station and the telecommunication network. The base station is also connected with a subscriber database to maintain the subscriber records that contain provisioning information for services, features and account information, and an interactive response system operable to create and modify a subscriber record in the subscriber database in response to input received over the connection from a subscriber using the user device to select services, features and account information for the subscriber station.
Abstract:
The present invention provides a novel system, method and apparatus of delivering interactive voice response services in a more efficient manner over a network. The system provides for the placement of a subscriber station local 28 to the subscriber and a gateway protocol converter at the base station 40. The gateway protocol converter converts bandwidth-intensive audio messages into compact data messages, which upon transmission to the subscriber station 28 are converted back into audio messages. By using data messages instead of audio messages over the network, bandwidth is saved on the network for other traffic. Another embodiment of the invention provides a method for transmitting subscriber responses utilizing the system. In another embodiment of the invention, there is provided an IVR system that utilizes the VoiceXML standard, or the like, whereby the Document Server, VoiceXML Interpreter Context, and the Implementation Platform are distributed at various locations along the communication link between the IVR service provider and the subscriber station - such components being distributed along the link according to a desired utilization of network resources, such as bandwidth.
Abstract:
A financial transaction system operable to manage purchases of at least one of goods and services, comprising a customer identifier that is operable to uniquely identify an account to which the purchases are being charged; a financial services provider operable to at least one of debit and credit the account to which the purchases are being charged; a plurality of point-of-sale (POS) terminals in communication with the financial services provider via an intermediary node, where the point of sale terminals are operable to gather purchase information, customer identification and authorization information, and display information provided from a financial services provider; and a plurality of software agents distributed within the financial transaction system, operable to negotiate rules and behaviors for the purchase of goods and services.
Abstract:
A system, method and apparatus for managing uplink radio resources. The RRAM employs selective rate reduction to ensure resources for subscriber stations depending on individual QoS requirements. In response to a request for a new DDCH, the RRAM can drop a subscriber station at a low data rate and no media reservations. In response to traffic measurement reports from the subscriber stations, the RRAM attempts to increase or decrease the data rate of a subscriber station. When there are insufficient uplink resources, RRAM tries to lower the rate of a higher rate subscriber station. Searching for subscriber stations to lower, RRAM starts at the highest rate and continues to search lower data rates until a suitable candidate is found. RRAM also reserves resources for subscriber stations that will not be reallocated to other subscriber stations.
