Abstract: A method of a receiver determining the timing of a signal transmitted in a time-slotted manner, the signal comprising a sequence of information which is repeated at a known interval and has at least a known minimum length. The method performs correlation operations between groups of received slots of information, the groups spaced by the known interval. The groups are moved through the received signal, adding and removing slots, to locate a maximum correlation value sum for the group which should correspond to the timing of the slot. The method also can be used to determine a frequency offset at the receiver and/or an initial phase.

Abstract: A method and system for managing a telephony connection on hold to reduce the use of resources within the telephony network and/or to allow the user on hold to place their telephony device into an on-hook state after they have been placed on hold. In two embodiments, a user of a telephony device who has been placed on hold can initiate a Smart Hold whereby their telephony device can be placed in an on-hook state while on hold and the user will be signaled when the call is to be removed from hold. This allows the user to perform other activities while a Smart Hold has been implemented, without the need to keep a telephone handset to their car, for example. The freeing up of local loop resources can also be achieved. In another embodiment, the Smart Hold can be initiated by either party to a connection without requiring cooperation of the other party. In some embodiments, no toll charges or the like will be incurred while the Smart Hold is in effect.

Abstract: A wireless local loop system manages radio data transmission capacity and network resources shared by a plurality of subscriber stations by considering the type of connections desired to be created to the subscriber stations and the radio data transmission capacity, and in some cases QoS parameters, and network resources required for those connections. The subscriber stations include data and telephony ports and can include a subscriber utilization client (SUC) to assist in the management process. The SUC in each subscriber station communicates with a network utilization manager (NUM) to request network resources from the base station. The NUM determines the requirements, in data transmission capacity and/or QoS levels, for the desired connection and considers the utilization of the network resources at the base station, or sector of the base station, in determining whether to establish the desired connection. The NUM can consider the required level and a desired level of data transmission capacity and/or QoS levels and allocate resources for the connection according to either level, or therebetween. The SUC and NUM can prioritize the establishment of connections on an appropriate basis, including the type of connection, the parties to the connection, the revenue potential of the connection and the port for the connection at the subscriber station, etc.

Cuando la capacidad portadora de datos se hace disponible en un marco, los datos son transmitidos en una o mas unidades de protocolo, cada unidad de protocolo teniendo una porcion de carga util de datos que esta implicitamente dividida en bloques secuencialmente enumerados, cada uno teniendo la misma longitud fija, excepto si el numero de bytes llevados en la porcion de carga util no es un entero multiple de la longitud fija, entonces el ultimo bloque, o el unico bloque si el numero de bytes en la porcion de carga util es menor que la longitud fija, es mas corto que la longitud fija, y la porcion de encabezado incluyendo el numero de secuencia del primer bloque en la porcion de carga util de datos. Si se determina que el receptor no recibio una copia no corrompida de la unidad de protocolo previamente transmitida y existe una capacidad portadora de datos insuficiente en el siguiente marco disponible, entonces la unidad de protocolo previamente transmitida es transmitida en dos o mas nuevas unidades de protocolo formadas de los bloques de al unidad de protocolo previamente transmitida.

En respuesta a una solicitud de un nuevo DDCH, RRAM puede caer una estacion suscriptora a una baja velocidad de datos y sin reservaciones de medios. En respuesta a los reportes de medicion de trafico de las estaciones suscriptoras, RRAM intenta incrementar o reducir la velocidad de datos de una estacion suscriptora. Cuando existen insuficientes recursos de enlace ascendente, RRAM trata de disminuir la velocidad de una estacion suscriptora de velocidad mas alta. Buscando que las estaciones suscriptoras disminuyan, RRAM inicia a la velocidad mas alta y continua hasta alcanzar las velocidades de datos mas bajas hasta que se encuentra un candidato adecuado. RRAM tambien reserva recursos para estaciones suscriptoras que no se reasignaran a otras estaciones suscriptoras.
