Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To eliminate restrictions on the physical distribution of a recording head and enhance a degree of freedom in handling the recording head by supplying ink to an ink channel in which an alkaline preservation liquid is sealed from an ink tank by detachably joining the recording head to the ink tank in an ink-jet recording apparatus. SOLUTION: The recording head has an ink channel and a discharge opening which communicates with the ink channel and from which ink supplied into the ink channel is discharged. The recording head is constituted so that when the recording head is detachably joined with an ink tank in an ink-jet recording apparatus, ink is supplied from the ink tank to the ink channel, thus enabling the discharge opening to discharge the ink. In this case, it is necessary to seal an alkaline preservation liquid in the ink channel. The preservation liquid is a liquid adjusted to an alkali pH, preferably, one having a solubilizing function for pollutants. A liquid of a composition having a total amount of a coloring matter component removed from the ink usable for recording is preferred. Using a strongly basic substance is preferred to adjust the pH.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To realize a method for easily forming a transparent image on a paper, using a colorless transparent liquid and reproducing an image as needed in the conventional ink-jet recording system, which cannot use an ink and a treating liquid for insolubilizing or aggregating a coloring agent of the ink. SOLUTION: A colorless transparent latent image to be visualized by a post treatment is formed on a medium to be recorded by printing a colorless transparent liquid on the medium to be recorded in an ink-jet recording apparatus. The apparatus comprises the means for forming the colorless transparent latent image, and a means for reproducing the image by a post treatment of the medium to be recorded with the latent image formed with the colorless transparent liquid, in particular, by producing a difference between the surface pH of the medium to be recorded and the transparent ink image pH on the medium to be recorded by applying an ink containing a substance to have a color change according to the pH change, or the like.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an ink set free from the problem that the inside of an apparatus is stained with the ink used in restoring means and capable of allowing long-term stable recording of a high-grade recording image by packing a black ink containing self-dispersible carbon black and an aqueous medium and color inks each containing a colorant, a urea (derivative), and an aqueous medium into their respective ink receptacles. SOLUTION: A self-dispersible carbon black in an amount of 0.1-15 wt.% prepared by bonding at least one kind of hydrophilic groups to the surface of carbon black directly or through other atomic groups is dispersed in an aqueous medium containing 50-95 wt.% water and 3-50 wt.% water-soluble organic solvent to obtain a black ink having a viscosity of 1-15 cP and a surface tension of 25-50 dyn/cm. 0.1-20 wt.% colorant and 0.1-20 wt.% urea (derivative) are dispersed in an aqueous medium containing 50-95 wt.% water and 3-15 wt.% water-soluble organic solvent to obtain a color ink having a viscosity of 1-15 cP and a surface tension of 25-50 dyn/cm. The black ink and such color inks are packed in their respective ink receptacles.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce a sweep-up phenomenon in which ink flows out of an image end in a scanning direction of a recording head for discharging ink and processing liquid for insolubilizing ink when recording is performed using the ink and processing liquid. SOLUTION: When ink dots 4a and processing liquid dots 4b are recorded in an overlapped fashion on a recording paper 6 while a recording head 19a is scanned which has ink discharging ports 1a and processing liquid discharging ports 1b, an extra amount of substantially transparent processing dots 4b is recorded in a non-recording area outside an image end 4 in a scanning direction. Thus, flowing out of ink to the outside of the area that is caused by overlapped discharging of ink and processing liquid in the recording area can be blocked by the extra amount of dots 4b recorded.

The wavelength showing the peak of an absorbance in the visible region of an aqueous solution of the dye shifts by 5nm in the pH region of 3-7.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an ink set expressing a sharp edge in high color concentration, giving no irregular line thickenings in the pictures and generating no boundary bleedings in the pictures when adjacently printed with different color inks and capable of forming clear color pictures, even a recording paper having a high degree of sizing is used in recording the color pictures by an ink jet. SOLUTION: This ink set is prepared by combining two or more different color inks. Each ink contains a dye and a liquid medium as essential components. At least one color ink contains a high molecular weight material, and the other ink having a different color from that of the preceding ink contains a water soluble dye and an amphoteric compound. An ink jet recording using this ink set is performed.

Abstract: PURPOSE: To obtain the subject composition excellent in print reliability in ink jet recording therewith, restorability and preservability, by incorporating an anionic dye with a combination of a compound liquid at normal temperatures and bearing both OH and amino groups with a new compound containing urea linkage. CONSTITUTION: This water-based ink composition essentially comprises (A) pref. 0.5-7wt.% of a compound liquid at normal temperatures and bearing both OH and amino groups (pref. ethanolamine and/or a derivative therefrom), (B) pref. 3-10wt.% of a urea linkage-contg. compound of formula I or II [R is [CH2 ]6 or isophorone of formula III; R1 to R6 are each H, CH2 CH2 OH, etc.; where, R1 and R2 , R3 and R4 , and R5 and R6 are each not H simultaneously, respectively], (C) pref. 1-10wt.% of an anionic dye, and (D) water. The compound of formula I is pref. bis-β-hydroxyethylurea, while the compound of formula II is pref. a reaction product of hexamethylene diisocyanate and diethanolamine.
