    Abstract: The present invention provides a broadcast channel signal and apparatus for managing the transmission and receipt of broadcast channel information, where a known difference in the data prior to encoding for transmission produces a predictable difference, which can be removed or cancelled from the multiple received active frames, such that their differences can be negated prior to combining and subsequently decoding. In at least one embodiment one or more applied linear encoding techniques can allow for a predictable difference in the encoded values based upon a knowledge of the difference prior to encoding.

    Abstract: A method for transmitting data within a communication system (100) comprises determining a carrier bandwidth from a set of two or more carrier bandwidths, receiving data to be transmitted over a radio frame (300, 400, 500), wherein the radio frame is comprised of a plurality of subframes (301, 401, 501), and placing data within a subframe in the radio frame to produce a subframe of data. The subframe of data comprises either a plurality of OFDM symbols or a plurality of single carrier FDMA symbols, at least two of the OFDM symbols or at least two of the single carrier FDMA symbols in the subframe having different symbol durations. The radio frame and subframe have the same duration for each of the carrier bandwidths in the set of two or more carrier bandwidths. The OFDM symbols or single carrier FDMA symbols in the subframe comprise a plurality of subcarriers and wherein the plurality of symbols and subcarriers in the subframe are grouped into resource blocks such that the carrier bandwidth is divided into an integer number of resource blocks. The at least two OFDM or single carrier FDMA symbols in each of the plurality of subframes differ in cyclic prefix duration by one sample duration corresponding to the smallest carrier bandwidth in the set of two or more carrier bandwidths. The subframe of data is transmitted over the radio frame and in the determined carrier bandwidth. A mobile station or a base station adapted to perform the steps of the method for transmitting data is also disclosed and claimed.

    Abstract: The present invention provides a downconverter method and apparatus for downconverting a multiphase modulated signal. The downconverter can be implemented in a multi-phase receiver such as a quadrature receiver. An analogto-digital converter (103) converts an intermediate frequency signal to a digital signal at a sampling rate. A Hilbert transformation filter (104) and a delay element (105) connected in parallel provide respective passband quadrature and in-phase components of the digital signal. A digital translator (107) alters the passband quadrature and in-phase components based on a predetermined pattern to provide a baseband quadrature signal and a baseband in-phase signal. The digital translator (107) can be a pseudorandom sequence demodulator for demodulating a code division multiple access (CDMA) signal. Various types of DC estimation can also be provided in addition to automatic gain control.
