Abstract: Described herein are electrical articles comprising a polyamide (PA). As explained in detail below, the polyamide (PA) is a semi-aromatic polyamide derived from the polycondensation of an aliphatic diamine, terephthalic acid, and a bis(aminoalkyl)cyclohexane or a cyclohexanedicarboxylic acid. It was surprisingly discovered that incorporation of the cycloaliphatic diamine bis(aminoalkyl)cyclohexane or the cycloaliphatic dicarboxylic acid cyclohexanedicarboxylic acid into the polyamide provided for polymer compositions (PC) having significantly improved comparative tracking index (“CTI”) retention after heat aging, relative to analogous polyamides derived from only the aliphatic diamine and terephthalic acid. Due at least in part to the improved CTI retention, the polyamides (PA) can be desirably incorporated into articles that, during use, are exposed to elevated temperatures and benefit from high CTI performance.

Abstract: A method of forming a coating composition for application to a substrate utilizing a high efficiency transfer applicator. The method includes identifying at least one of an Ohnesorge number (Oh) for the coating composition, a Reynolds number (Re) for the coating composition, or a Deborah number (De) for the coating composition. The method includes obtaining at least one of a viscosity (η) of the coating composition, a surface tension (σ) of the coating composition, a density (ρ) of the coating composition, a relaxation time (λ) of the coating composition, a nozzle diameter (D) of the high efficiency transfer applicator, or an impact velocity (v) of the high efficiency transfer applicator. The method includes forming the coating composition having at least one of the viscosity (η), the surface tension (σ), or the density (ρ). The coating composition is configured to be applied to the substrate utilizing the high efficiency transfer applicator having at least one of the nozzle diameter (D) or the impact velocity (v).

Abstract: A method for reducing outgassing of a polyester composed of repeat units derived from 1,4-butanediol is melt blending the polyester with 0.2 to 2 weight percent water, based on the weight of the polyester. In addition to water, the polyester can also be blended with 0.01 to 0.5 weight percent of a quencher. The method results in formation of a polyester composition which exhibits reduced outgassing, and is suitable for molding into articles, for example an automotive headlight reflector or bezel.

Abstract: Embodiments of an optical fiber ribbon cable are provided. The optical fiber ribbon cable includes a cable jacket having an interior surface defining a central bore, at least one buffer tube located in the central bore of the cable jacket, and at least one optical fiber ribbon disposed within the at least one buffer tube. The at least one optical fiber ribbon includes a plurality of optical fibers, a polymer matrix surrounding the plurality of optical fibers, and a low-smoke, flame retardant (LSFR) coating surrounding the polymer matrix. The LSFR coating includes from 25 to 65% by weight of an inorganic, halogen-free flame retardant filler dispersed in a curable acrylate medium. Further, the inorganic, halogen-free flame retardant filler includes particles having, on average, a maximum outer dimension of 5 microns.

Abstract: It has been unexpected found that the fluid resistance of hoses can be greatly enhanced by adding a chlorinated paraffin to a chlorinated polyethylene elastomer or a chlorosulfonated polyethylene elastomer which is used as the tubular inner core layer of the hose. Hoses made using this approach offer the advantage of having improved resistance to modern automotive fluids, provide a longer service life, and better reliability without compromising flexural characteristics or burst strength. Such hoses are comprised of (1) an elastomeric tubular inner core layer defining a lumen, (2) a friction layer, and (3) an elastomeric cover, wherein the elastomeric tubular inner core layer is comprised of (i) a chlorinated elastomer selected from the group consisting of epichlorohydrin, polychloroprene, chlorinated polyethylene and chlorosulfonated polyethylene, (ii) 1 phr to 50 phr of a chlorinated paraffin, and (iii) 30 phr to 120 phr of carbon black.
