    Abstract: A suction control device for a multi-cylinder internal combustion engine comprising a valve body for forming a suction passageway communicating with each cylinder of said multi-cylinder internal combustion engine, a rotating shaft (21a) put through and supported by said valve body, butterfly valves (21) supported on said rotating shaft and each disposed at each of said suction passageways for freely opening and/or closing it, and restricting means for restricting the axial movement of said rotating shaft, wherein said rotating shaft (21a) and butterfly valves (21) are integrally formed from a resin material, wherein said valve body (II) is formed from a resin material, and wherein said restricting means comprises an expanded piece (21b) formed integrally with said rotating shaft so as to expand in the radial direction of said rotating shaft, an abutment wall (24) formed on said valve body adapted to be brought into abutment with said expanded piece for slidably supporting said expanded piece, and an elastic biassing member (33) for biassing said expanded piece so as to bring it into abutment with said abutment wall, whereby it is possible to attain highly accurate positioning of the multi-butterfly valve rotating shaft in a thrust direction and to prevent the shaking of the shaft, while reducing the weight of said device.

    Abstract: An intake manifold includes a plurality of intake pipes that are provided in line to send air to an engine mounted on a vehicle through the intake pipes. Each of the intake pipes includes a main body formed of resin and an end pipe formed of resin, welded to a lower stream end side of the main body, and joined to the engine. Further, one member of the main body and the end pipe is provided with a rib that is formed on a side surface portion of the one member and that extends toward a lateral side of the other member. The other member is provided with a restriction portion that is formed on a side surface portion of the other member and that interferes with the rib to restrict moving of the main body in the crash direction relative to the end pipe when a weld portion of the main body and the end pipe is broken due to a collision load applied to the intake pipe at a vehicle crash.

    Abstract: An air intake tract with a hydrocarbon adsorber is provided for adsorbing hydrocarbons of a motor vehicle. The hydrocarbon adsorber includes at least one first layer constructed of a hydrocarbon adsorbing material. Optionally, one or more stacked layers are provided including at least an uppermost layer and at least one intermediate layer. The at least one first layer includes a solid shape within an outer boundary and is adapted for sonic welding onto an interior of the air intake tract. The uppermost layer and any intermediate layers include an opening such that the uppermost layer provides access for a sonic welding tool from an upper side of the subassembly to the at least one first layer through the opening.

    Abstract: An intake manifold for an internal combustion engine comprises upper and lower shell members with outer flanges. The shell members define a manifold cavity having a plenum and a plurality of runners. The upper shell includes an upper post formed as an indentation into the plenum with a tunnel wall and a terminus wall. The lower shell includes a lower post formed as an indentation into the plenum with a tunnel wall and a terminus wall. The terminus walls are attached to provide a brace across the plenum. One of the posts includes an orifice penetrating the tunnel wall. A sealed coupler extends from the one post and is adapted to receive a secondary gas for mixing within the plenum. Thus, secondary gases can be introduced without additional structures that could impede gas flow and could increase manufacturing cost.

    Abstract: A valve casing of a flow regulating valve is welded to an end of a downstream section of a manifold body. Two passages are formed in the valve casing of the flow regulating valve. The valve casing accommodates a valve plate for switching at least one of the passages selectively between an open state and a closed state.
