Abstract:
A scanning apparatus (100) including a movable scan carriage (220) and separate fixed object focal planes (106, 210) for scanning transmissive and reflective original documents. A dark slide (1714) provides protection against flare during scanning, and can be closed to provide for dark current calibration as well as to seal the system (1710) from dust when not in use.

Abstract:
The present invention provides an original reading apparatus comprising a pre-scan mode for reading a color reference member before a reading mode for reading an original is effected. Wherein the pre-scan mode is effected by rotating a single motor in one direction, and the reading mode is effected by rotating the motor in the other direction.
Abstract:
The present invention provides an original reading apparatus including a pre-scan mode for reading a color reference member before an original is read, a registration mode for aligning a tip end of the original before the original is read, and a reading mode for conveying and reading the original. The reading apparatus further comprises first and second rotary member to perform the above three modes, and these modes are effected by selectively rotating the first and second rotary members in a normal direction and/or reverse direction and selectively stopping the first or second rotary member.
Abstract:
A paper feed roller (5) is divided into a first roller (5a) and a second roller (5b), and a slit (58) allowing the passage of about 10 to about 20 sheets of paper is defined between the first roller and a gate plate (57) opposing the first roller, so that a sheet of paper fed out via this slit can be supplied between the second roller (5b) and a separation pad (7) in contact with the second roller. A biassing force of a spring for transferring paper is converted by a slide cam sliding in a direction parallel to the paper feed roller, and a paper width detection sensor is assembled in a snap-in structure.
Abstract:
An image scanning and reading apparatus comprises a transparent drum (1) fro supporting a plurality of originals (2, 2 min ) and calibration reference portions (3, 3 min ) serving as references in reading the respective originals. A scanning head (5) is provided for scanning the rotating drum and an arithmetic unit (21) has a memory (20) for storing the positions of the calibration reference portions or the drum. The position of the calibration reference portions is stored prior to the reading of the originals and, when the scanning is started, the scanning head is moved to the stored position of a first calibration reference portion, the calibration is effected and the corresponding original is read taking the calibration data into account. The scanning of each successive original is similarly preceded by re-calibration using the corresponding reference portion, each calibration operation taking place while the drum is still rotating.

Abstract:
Example implementations relate to streak compensation. Some examples may calibrate an initial gain for data from an optical element based on a scan of a first calibration target, obtain an image of a second calibration target from the optical element using the calibrated initial gain, and detect at least one streak in the image of the second calibration target. Some examples may also record data representing the at least one detected streak and may calibrate a final gain for the optical element based on the initial gain and the data representing the at least one detected streak.
Abstract:
An image reading apparatus capable of accurately detecting abnormal pixels caused by a contaminant such as dirt, stain, or flaw on a moving document reading glass being read. An image processing unit of the image reading apparatus performs a first abnormal pixel detection process to detect pixel signals representing abnormal pixels and output from image sensors for respective colors when a reading unit reads a guide plate in a main scanning direction in a state before an original passes through a moving document reading position, performs a second abnormal pixel detection process to detect pixel signals representing abnormal pixels and output from the image sensors when an original being conveyed is read by the reading unit in the main scanning direction, and detects a main scanning direction of abnormal pixels based on results of these detection processes.
