Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the quality of digital images. SOLUTION: A flat bed scanner for sensing an original document is provided with a scanner housing 102 and a scanning carriage 302 arranged movably relating to the scanner housing 102. The original document attached to a medium holder 110 is forced by first, second and third devices for attachment and the part of the original document near a scanning line is practically placed on an object focal plane during scanning.
Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a reflected and transmitted original document color scanner inexpensively by having an illumination output of a lamp reflected or redirected to illuminate a scan line with a switching mirror. SOLUTION: A second body focal plane 210 is located under an Rx body focal plane 106 and is called a 'Tx body focal plane'. An illumination system 222 of a scan carriage 220 includes more than one electric lamp that is provided to illuminate an original along a scan line 113 and the other components. The system 222 illuminates the line 113 on the Tx body focal plane 210, and an optical system 224 is changed so that the line 113 is converged on a sensor focal plane 232. An optical system of the carriage 220 selects a body focal plane, decides a scale factor of a body that is projected onto the plane 232 and has a folding function of an optical path to efficiently use physical capacity in the carriage 220, and a switching mirror reflects an illumination output of the lamp or selectively redirects it to illuminate a scan line on a transmission body focal plane.
Abstract:
A scanning apparatus (100) including a movable scan carriage (220) and separate fixed object focal planes (106, 210) for scanning transmissive and reflective original documents. A dark slide (1714) provides protection against flare during scanning, and can be closed to provide for dark current calibration as well as to seal the system (1710) from dust when not in use.
