Abstract:
Nanocrystals having an indium-based core and methods for making them and using them to construct core-shell nanocrystals are described. These core-shell nanocrystals are highly stable and provide higher quantum yields than known nanocrystals of similar composition, and they provide special advantages for certain applications because of their small size.

Provided herein is a pipette tip (600) for electroporation including an outer surface, a void (611) located within the outer surface, and a conductor (622) located at least partially on or within the outer surface, in electrical communication with at least a portion of the outer surface and the void. Further provided herein is a pipette tip for electroporation including a body, a connector (620), and an elongated part (630). The connector is located at the distal end of the body and further includes at least one connecting post, a connecting part in mechanical communication with the connector, and a conductor located at least partially on or within the connector, wherein the conductor surrounds at least a portion of the connecting post. The elongated part also has a void and is located at the distal end of the connector. The void of the body, connector, and elongated part are in fluid communication.
Abstract:
Disclosed are arrays treatable to prevent reuse. The disclosed arrays include probes that contain nucleotide analogs susceptible to a degradative agent. After analysis, such arrays can be treated with the degradative agent, thereby rendering them unsuitable for reuse. Thus, the present disclosure describes compositions and methods for degrading array probes, thereby preventing array reuse.
Abstract:
The invention provides compositions and methods for delivering compounds to cells. The invention is directed, in part, to virus-like particles which contain biological materials such as carbohydrates, proteins and nucleic acids. The invention is also directed, in part, to methods for delivering compounds to cells involving contacting cells with the compounds under conditions which allow for uptake of the compounds by cells and release of the compounds into the cells which take it up.
Abstract:
Disclosed are assays, methods, and kits for the screening of test compounds for their capability to induce cardiotoxicity in a subject. In particular, whether a test compound has the effect to prolong the Q-T interval as measured by an electrocardiogram in a human. The assays, methods, and kits disclosed herein make use of the binding interaction between novel fluorescent tracers and the hERG K+ channel, and the propensity of a test compound to influence that binding interaction.

Abstract:
Quantitation is performed using data from a mass spectrometer. A calibration ion mass spectrum is acquired for each of a plurality of known quantities of a material. From the calibration spectra a plurality of ions that identify the material is determined, and for each ion of the plurality of ions a linear range and linear function are determined. A sample ion mass spectrum is acquired for an unknown quantity of the material. A sample intensity is measured for each ion of the plurality of ions from the sample spectrum. After acquiring the sample spectrum, one or more ions are selected from the plurality of ions such that the sample intensity of each of the one or more ions is within a linear range of the ion. The unknown quantity is calculated from the sample intensities and linear functions of the one or more ions.
Abstract:
In a tandem mass spectrometer using a collision cell for ion fragmentation, the upper limit of the collision energy required for collision induced dissociation (CID) can be extended without reaching or going beyond the upper electrical discharge limit of the system components. The present teachings describe a method of lifting the potential energy of ions to a predetermined level sufficient for CID fragmentation while satisfying a discharge free condition. The present teaching also describes a method of lifting the potential energy of the fragment ions after CID fragmentation so that the product ions have sufficient energy for mass analysis.
Abstract:
Methods for cooling ions retained in an ion trap are described. In various embodiments, a cooling gas is delivered into a linear ion trap causing a non-steady state pressure elevation in at least a portion of the trap above about 8 x 10 -5 Torr for a duration less than the ion-retention time. In various embodiments, the duration of pressure elevation can be based upon a period of time required for an ion to lose a desired amount of its kinetic energy.
