Abstract: A process for the preparation of high-purity tetrachloro-1,4-benzoquinone by the action of hydrogen peroxide and hydrochloric acid on hydroquinone, which comprises causing 3.8 top 4.2 times the molar quantity of 30 to 37% hydrochloric acid and 1.9 to 2.1 times the molar quantity of 50 to 35% hydrogen peroxide, to act at 5 to 50 DEG C. on 1 mole of hydroquinone in at least 12 times the molar quantity of 30 to 37% hydrochloric acid, then heating the resulting suspension, which essentially contains 2,5-dichlorohydroquinone, to 45 to 55 DEG C. and again causing to act on it, at 50 to 95 DEG C., 3.8 to 4.2 times the molar quantity of 30 to 37% hydrochloric acid and 1.9 to 2.1 times the molar quantity of 50 to 35% hydrogen peroxide, in each case based on the hydroquinone used, and finally adding to the suspension, which is now essentially composed of trichloro-1,4-benzoquinone, 1.9 to 2.1 times the molar quantity of hydrochloric acid of the said concentration range, and 0.95 to 1.05 times the molar quantity of hydrogen peroxide of the said concentration range, in each case based on the hydroquinone used, at 95 to 115 DEG C., sufficiently slowly for no chlorine to escape.

Abstract: Highly pure tetrachloro-1,4-benzoquinone is prepared by the action of chlorine and hydrochloric acid on hydroquinone, characterised in that the 1.9- to 2.1-fold molar amount of gaseous chlorine is allowed to act, at temperatures from 5 to 15 DEG C, on 1 mole of hydroquinone in the 6- to 7-fold molar amount of 30% to 37% hydrochloric acid, the suspension obtained, which essentially contains the 2,5-dichlorohydroquinone, is then diluted with 2 to 3 parts of water relative to the hydroquinone employed, and first heated to a temperature of 20 to 30 DEG C, the 1.9- to 2.1-fold molar amount of chlorine gas is then passed in in an atmosphere of air and while increasing the temperature to 90 to 100 DEG C, while simultaneously diluting the mixture with 3.5 to 4.5 parts of water, relative to hydroquinone employed, and finally passing in, at temperatures from 100 to 115 DEG C, the 1- to 2-fold molar amount of gaseous chlorine, relative to hydroquinone employed.

Abstract: PROCESS FOR THE PREPARATION OF VIOLET DYESTUFFS OF THE TRIPHENYLMETHANE SERIES of the disclosure: A novel process had been found for preparing novel violet dyestuffs of the triphenylmethane series which is characterized by that an aluminum chloride or borotrifluoride or iron-III-chloride-complex compound of a 4,4',4"-trihalogenotriphenylmethyl-halide is reacted with phenyl- or naphthylamine which are substituted in the m- oder p-position in a molar ratio of 1 to 1.5 at 110 to 135.degree.C and in an inert organic solvent, and the mono-phenyl or -naphthylamino- substituted halide formed is reacted with 5 - 20 mols of an ortho-substituted phenyl- or naphthylamine at 150 to 190.degree.C. The dyestuffs so prepared are well suitable for printing paper and plastics and dyeing polyacrylonitrile fibres.

Abstract: New valuable metal complex disazomethine compounds of the formula (I) had been found wherein R is hydrogen, an alkyl, aralkyl, cycloalkyl, aryl or heterocyclic radical, an amino group which may be substituted by alkyl or aryl radicals, or a guanidino group, X stands for a -CO- or -SO2-group, Y stands for hydrogen, a halogen atom, an alkyl, alkoxy or nitro group, R1 stands for hydrogen or an alkyl radical, Z stands for hydrogen, a halogen atom, an alkoxy or nitro or a-cyano group and M is a bivalent metal atom. The new compounds are very well suitable as dyes, especially good pigments, and can be used, for example for the dyeing of masses of synthetic materials, for pigmenting paints and - 1a lacquers, for spin-dyeing viscose and cellulose acetate and for pigmenting polyethylene or similar polymers, caoutchouc or synthetic leather. Their dyeings have excellent fastnesses as, for example, to migration, light, weather and solvents. Furthermore, the compounds themselves have an excellent heat stability, a high colour intensity and high degree of purity of the shades. - 1b
