Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce the energy of portable electronic equipment and to improve the display visibility by arranging a transmission type lighting body below a lower substrate and a light absorption part below the transmission type lighting body. SOLUTION: The luminous flux emitted by a light emission source 7 constituting the transmission type lighting body is guided in a light guide plate 6 constituting the transmission type lighting body and totally reflected again and again, and the guided light 14 when reaching a flank part of a columnar projection is emitted there out of the light guide plate 6; and the light when reaching an area (light scatter part) 15 where no voltage is applied becomes omnidirectional scattered light 13, but the rate of light which is scattered upward is large, so that the area 15 presents a light white display which is turbid in white for a locking-down observer. At this time, scattered light of external light 10 is also added. Emitted light 12 having reached a voltage applied area (transparent part) 16, on the other hand, is not scattered in the area 15 and emitted obliquely upward as it is. The looking-down observer, therefore, observes the area 16 in the color of the light absorption part 9 i.e., in black.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an easy-to-see and bright input tablet imparted with a two-dimensional illuminating function simple in structure by guiding light flux made incident from an end face to a light emitting plane and illuminating an object to be illuminated from the light emitting plane. SOLUTION: A light transmission body 11 is formed in the shape of rectangular plate as a whole, four end faces vertical to the surface of that plate are formed in the direction of plate surface orthogonal to the direction of plate thickness and the side faces of light transmission body 11 are formed from them. At the position facing one-side end face along with a short-side direction among these four end faces, a light source 2 composed of a linear light source such as a fluorescent lamp, for example, is arranged along with that end face 16. Both the surfaces of light transmission body 11 are formed as a light emitting plane 13 and a light reflecting plane 17. The light flux radiated from the light source 2 is made incident from the end face 16 to a light transmission plate 11 as shown by a light beam 19a or 19b, repeatedly fully reflected inside that plate later and emitted only from the side face 15 of projection 12. Therefore, there are a lot of beams emitted from the back of illuminator and an object 6 to be illuminated can effectively be illuminated.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide the piezoelectric thin film whose piezoelectric strain constant value is not reduced even at the time of increasing the thickness of the thin film and also to provide the production of the thin film. SOLUTION: This piezoelectric thin film 21 consists of a base layer(s) 14 formed from a three-component system piezoelectric material and a member layer(s) 13 formed from a two-component system piezoelectric material having a lower crystallization temp. than that of the base layer's) 14. Therefore, the crystal properties of the piezoelectric thin film 21 as a whole at the time of increasing the film thickness, are improved and the reduction in piezoelectric constant value of the thin film 21 having an increased thickness is inhibited from occurring. Further, the piezoelectric film 21 having an increased thickness is produced by many times forming coating layers of the above piezoelectric materials with a sol-gel method and annealing/crystallizing these piezoelectric material coating layers all together.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the characteristics of the piezoelectric strain and permittivity. etc., of a piezoelectric material thin film, by making the values of its film thickness and the average grain size of its crystal grains specific, and by eliminating any laminar discontinuous surface in its section. SOLUTION: After forming a platinum electrode 12 on a silicon substrate 11 to apply a sol thereto, burning the resultant matter temporarily at 400 deg.C a porous gel thin film 13 of 0.3μm in film thickness is formed. Further, repeating two times the applications and temporary burnings of the sols, a new porous gel thin film 13 of 0.9μm in film thickness is formed. Heating this film 13 in the oxygen atmosphere of an RTA furnace, a minute thin film 14 of 0.6μm in film thickness is obtained. Further thereon, repeating three times the applications and temporary burnings of the sols, a new porous gel thin film 13 of 0.9μm in film thickness is obtained. Then, pre-annealing this film 13 in the RTA furnace, a new thin film 14 having a minute crystalline and a film thickness of 1.2μm is obtained. After peeling a resist from this film 14, annealing this resultant substrate 11 at 900 deg.C in the RTA furnace, a piezoelectric material thin film 15 of 1.2μm in film thickness is obtained. From the observation of the section of this film 15 by an SEM, a thin-film configuration with an average grain size of 0.03μm and no laminar discontinuous surface is obtained. Whenever the piezoelectric thin film 15 with a film thickness not smaller than 0.5μm and not larger than 20μm and an average grain size not smaller than 0.005μm and not larger than 0.2μm is manufactured by this method, its favorable characteristic can be obtained.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a light guide plate which serves as a reflecting plate providing backlighting without decreasing its reflecting function and to provide a liquid crystal display device for a small-sized portable equipment which does not decrease in lighting efficiency. SOLUTION: This light guide plate 7, having a columnar projection part 12 formed of a plane nearly parallel to a transparent flat plate 11 and a nearly perpendicular plane on the light-projection side plane 14 of the flat plate 11, is provided with a total reflecting layer 13 on a light-projection side plane 14 except a projection part 12 and also the surface of the projection part 12 nearly parallel to the flat plate 11. Further, a reflecting plate and a lighting device are provided on a liquid crystal panel and its back surface. In this case, the lighting system in composed of the light guide plate 7 having the projection part 13 formed of the planes which are nearly parallel and the planes perpendicular to the flat plate 11 and a light source arranged on its end surface, and the light guide plate 7 which is provided with the total reflecting layer 13 on the light-projection side plate 14 of the flat plate 11 serves as the reflecting plate. A light diffusion plate or film is arranged between the liquid crystal display panel and light guide plate 7. Further, a spot light source is used as the light source.

Abstract: PURPOSE: To obtain a quartz glass which has optically high quality and can be used for a photomask substrate or an optical fiber preform by subjecting a dry gel to sealing treatment, heating the gel to form a glass body or glass precursor and maintaining it at temp. higher than the heat treatment. CONSTITUTION: After a sol soln. containing a silicon compd. gels, the gel is dried to obtain a dry gel. The pares of the dry gel are sealed and the gel is heated at a first heating temp. to obtain a glass body or glass precursor. The obtd. glass body or precursor is left to stand, heated at a second temp. which is higher than the first heating temp., and maintained for a specified time to obtain a quartz glass. Then the quartz glass is cooled. In at least a part of the cooling process, the glass is gradually cooled. If large particles or impurities which are hardly vitrified are mixed in the source material, a complete homogeneous glass can not be obtd. It is preferable that the treatment of the sol is carried out in a clean environment and particles larger than a specified size are removed by filtering or centrifugal separation.

Then, light is made incident from the substrate 10 side and observed from the identical side.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To subject only a nozzle plate surface to a water-repellent treatment of superior characteristics by a simple process and to excellently sustain the effect to enhance a printing quality for a long term by a method wherein in an ink jet recording head, an organic titanium compound layer is formed on a nozzle plate surface for delivering ink. CONSTITUTION:In the production of an ink jet recording head with a water- repellent layer 21 on a surface of a nozzle plate 2 for delivering ink, a titanate coupling agent (e.g. isopropyltriisostearoyl titanate) is infiltrated in ceramics. This is heated in a vacuum tank for evaporating the coupling agent. The coupling agent is reacted with the surface of the nozzle plate 2 or adsorbed thereto to form an organic titanium compound layer as the water-repellent layer 21. As a result, only the surface of the nozzle plate is subjected to a water-repellent treatment of superior characteristics, whereby an ink jet recording head of a high printing quality is obtained. Since this surface treatment has a superior sustainability, the recording head can be extended in service ink.

CONSTITUTION:This polarizing plate 100 includes a polarizing substrate 10 which has a polarizing layer 12 and supporting layers 14, 16 formed on both surfaces of this polarizing layer 12, an under coat layer 20 which is formed on the surface of the one supporting layer 14 constituting this polarizing substrate 10, an antireflection layer 30 which is formed on the surface of this under coat layer 20 and a contamination preventive layer 40 which is formed on the surface of this antireflection layer 30 and consists of a fluorine-contained silane compd. The brightness of the mirror finished surface based on JIS Z 8741 of the under coat layer 20 is preferably 10 to 40 and the cloudness based on JIS K 6900 is preferably 5 to 30%.
