In a method for a finishing work of a spray-coated surface, an inner surface of a cylindrical hollow member is roughened by forming a helical groove thereon. A thermal spray coating is formed on the inner surface that is roughened, and a finishing work is carried out by cutting the thermal spray coating along a helix of the groove by use of a cutting tool. According to the method for a finishing work, a finishing work of a thermal spray coating with non-uniform hardness can be carried out efficiently.

Disclosed is a process for applying an insulative coating to a mandrel used in an electromagnetic telemetry antenna assembly. One process includes applying a bond coat to at least a portion of an outer radial surface of a mandrel; applying an electrical isolation layer to the bond coat; applying a first sealant layer to the electrical isolation layer; and heat treating the mandrel in an oven.

A method of manufacturing a thermal barrier coated article including: forming an article having a first and second surface, the article having projections extending from the first surface away from the first and second surface, each projection having a first end adjacent the first surface and a second end remote from the first surface, each projection having a blind passage extending therethrough from the second surface through the article towards the second end of the projection, the blind passage in the projection being closed at the second end of the projection, depositing a thermal barrier coating on the first surface around each of the projections and on the second ends, removing the thermal barrier coating from the second ends, and removing the second end of each projection to form a passage through the projection extending from the second surface through the article to the second end of the projection.

Disclosed is a surface treatment device with a robust nozzle configuration. The device includes a nozzle for ejecting a primary stream of combustible substance to a gaseous atmosphere in an ejection direction; an ignition unit configured to ignite the primary stream in a point of ignition; and an impermeable shield providing a planar surface that is substantially opposite to the ejection direction and has in front of the nozzle a hole that allows passage of the primary stream. The shield is positioned between the nozzle and the point of ignition of the primary stream. The shield is advantageously dimensioned to allow simultaneous passage of the primary stream ejected from the nozzle and a circumferential secondary stream of gas from the gaseous atmosphere via the hole.

A thermal spray system may include a thermal spray torch configured to produce an emission of material, at least one camera configured to capture an image of the emission of material emitted by the thermal spray torch, a diagnostic device communicatively coupled to the at least one camera, and a controller communicatively coupled to the diagnostic device. The camera may be configured to transmit an image of the emission of material to a diagnostic device that may be configured to determine a characteristic of the emission of material based on the image. The diagnostic device may transmit the characteristic to a controller that may control a position of the thermal spray torch based on the characteristic.

A method produces a biocidal coating on a substrate, by a flame assisted chemical vapour deposition and a plasma assisted chemical vapour deposition step. In a first step, a biocidal material is deposited onto the substrate, possibly in combination with a first coating forming material. The second step provides a coating forming material onto the first layer, possibly in combination with a second biocidal material. The first step can be a flame assisted CVD step and the second step a plasma assisted CVD step or vice versa.

Provided is a system including a structural member for separating two environments that have different temperatures and a method of manufacturing the structural member. The system includes a barrier constructed with a plurality of the structural members. The structural member includes a core and a thermal barrier layer on at least a portion thereof. The thermal barrier layer is positionable between the two environments such that the structural member impedes the flow of heat and/or the flow of sound through the structural member and may improve a building's energy efficiency, occupancy comfort, and commercial viability.

A method of fabricating a medical implant component. The method may comprise producing a substrate from a first material in which the substrate has a bearing portion, and spraying particles of a second material by use of a thermal type spraying process onto at least the bearing portion of the substrate. The second material may be formed from a biocompatible material and a carbide source, in which the carbide source is 6.17% or more of the second material by weight. The biocompatible material may be cobalt chrome and the carbide source may be graphite. The thermal type spraying process may be a plasma spraying process or a high velocity oxygen fuel spraying process.

A thermal spray coating process for depositing finely divided metallic or nonmetallic materials in a molten or semi-molten condition to form a coating on a substrate wherein the coating material may be powder, ceramic-rod, wire or molten materials. The process involves the use of a gas made from water in an electrolyzer, which includes two principal electrodes and a plurality of supplemental electrodes. The supplemental electrodes are not connected electrically to a power source. The electrolyzer is adapted to separate the water such that its constituents of H and O are not recombined and instead produced jointly to make the single combustible gas composed of combinations of clusters of hydrogen and oxygen atoms structured according to a general formula HmOn wherein m and n have null or positive integer values with the exception that m and n can not be 0 at the same time.
