    Abstract: A wire rope comprising an outer rope layer and an inner rope layer of wire strands is provided. The inner rope layer itself is comprised of multiple layers, usually in a parallel laid, coreless arrangement. The inner and outer rope layers are contrahelically laid and are usually lubricated. A thermoplastic or elastomer can be utilized to encapsulate the lubricant within the inner rope layer or within both the inner and outer rope layers.

    Abstract: A corrosion resistant rope in which the individual strands are sealed with a plastic foam impregnant and surrounded with a dense unfoamed plastic material is made by applying a foamable plastic to the individual wires of a series of wire strands, or, alternatively, to the individual strands as a whole, and closing the strands into a rope in a closing die while passing a nonfoamable plastic material into the closing die. Sealed plastic foam impregnated wire strands can be made in the same manner by passing nonfoamable plastic material into the stranding die during fabrication of the strand.

The lay is preferably between four and six times the diameter of the strand (6). The lay of the strands (6) is preferably between six and eight times the diameter of the rope, and the wires of the strands (6) are preferably laid in the same direction as the strands of the rope.
