Abstract: A synthetic rope (1) for an elevator having improved resistance to compression and abrasion is provided and comprises a plurality of strands (7) forming layers of the rope, each strand formed from a plurality of pre-twisted strands (19) from high modulus synthetic filaments (21). One or more of the strands or layers of strands may be impregnated with a lubricant, such as polytetrafluoroethylene, to reduce the abrasion among the strands and substrands, and increase the service life of the rope. The exterior of the rope may be covered by a jacket (35) that provides for traction with the drive sheave. An elevator system comprising the claimed rope is also provided.

Abstract: Bei einem durch eine Seilscheibe angetriebenen Treibseil, mit einem Seilkern (19) aus in konzentrischen Litzenlagen (14,16) miteinander parallelverseilten tragenden Aramidfaserlitzen (9,10,11), wird vorgeschlagen, die Litzen (12) einer äussersten Litzenlage (21) im Gegenschlag mit dem Seilkern (19) zu verseilen. Durch die Gegenschlagverseilung heben sich die unter Last in den Litzenlagen (14,16,21) entstehenden Drehmomente gegenseitig auf; es wird ein drehungsneutraler Seilaufbau erreicht. Ein elastischer Zwischenmantel (20) zwischen den gegenschlagverseilten Litzenlagen (16, 21) dient als Abriebschutz für die Litzen (10,11,12) und einer grossflächigen Drehmomentenübertragung im Aufzugsseil (1).

Abstract: A steel cord (10) has a diameter D and comprises a core strand (12) and up to nine peripheral strands (14) surrounding the core strand. The core strand (12) has a diameter D1 and the peripheral strands (14) have a diameter D2. The ratio core strand diameter to peripheral strand diameter D1/D2 is greater than a predetermined value in order to enable rubber penetration. Each strand comprises a centre of one or more centre filaments (16,22) and two or more layers of filaments (18,20,24,26) surrounding the centre.
The twist angle of a radially outer layer is smaller than the twist angle of a radially inner layer of the same strand. A first free space (28) ranging from 0.0015xD to 0.0075xD is provided in at least the core strand (12) between each pair of filaments (18) of the radially most inner layer.
