Abstract:
A coreless glass fiber cable is made of a plurality of individual substantially untwisted glass fiber rovings twisted together. Certain of the rovings are impregnated with one component of an elastomeric resin with the remainder of the rovings impregnated with the second component of the elastomeric resin. The impregnated rovings are spirally twisted together in the same direction at substantially the same helical angle, the two components of the elastomeric resin impregnating the rovings mixing with each other at the junction of the intertwining of the rovings to form a cured elastomer spacing the glass fiber rovings and filaments making up the rovings from each other. The layed up glass fiber cable is fed back on itself and subsequent layers of impregnated rovings plied together over the initial layers. The subsequently applied layers are applied at the same helical angle as the initial layer. The cable, although useful for other purposes, is particularly useful in the manufacture of endless track for track vehicles, the endless track comprising a plurality of individual track sections strung along a cable of the type mentioned.
Abstract:
In a method of manufacturing a two-layer multistrand metal cord, N wires constituting an outer strand layer are wound in a helix around two wires constituting an inner strand layer, so as to form a strand. L>1 previously formed strands, which are incorporated as outer strands of an unsaturated outer cord layer of the cord, are wound in a helix around K>1 previously formed strands, which are incorporated as inner strands of an inner cord layer of the cord, to form a wound cord. The wound cord is overtwisted, the overtwisted cord is balanced so as to obtain zero residual torque in the overtwisted cord, and the balanced overtwisted cord is untwisted.
Abstract:
Provided are a steel cord for reinforcing rubber whose fatigue resistance is increased more than ever to enable achieving high durability that was not conventionally realized, and a pneumatic radial tire including the steel cord as a reinforcement member. In a steel cord for reinforcing rubber having a double-twist structure that includes a plurality of strands twisted together in the same direction with the same pitch and including a central structure and at least one outer layer, the central structure is composed of at least two strands being twisted around each other and each being composed of at least seven filaments being twisted together. In a steel cord for reinforcing rubber including at least three core strands being twisted together and at least six sheath strands being twisted together around the core strands, the core strands and the sheath strands are twisted in the same direction.
