    Abstract: 21,819. Stewart, W. F., and Kohlmeyer, A. H. Oct. 31. Suction filters; cleansing; testing.-Consists of an improved filter plant and filter of low-pressure type in which filtration under pressure is effected. The filter comprises a number of stones 1 connected in groups to pipes 3, which discharge through valves 7 into a common pipe 4. Water is drawn through the filter and forced into a storage tank 13 by a pump 12, preferably driven by a water motor having a piston of about the diameter of the pump piston, and the discharge from which forms the main supply to the filter, while the pipe 15 and float valve 16 furnish an auxiliary supply. The pipes 3 are connected by pipes 9 and valves 21 to the pump discharge, and are also fitted with faucets 8 to which an air pump may be connected to test each group of stones for leaks &c. By manipulation of the valves 27,7, and 21, the stones may be cleansed all together, or in separate groups, by forcing back clean water through them.

    Abstract: 12,616. Stewart, W. June 6. Saddles and seats. -Relates to a sliding attachment for the seats of bicycles, tricycles, &c. A carrier, which is clamped to t h e saddle and support C by means of the bolt D and nut F, consists of two end plates A connected by two pairs of tubes or rails B. Two pairs of rollers M, Fig. 5, are mounted upon axles I fixed in the side frames G, and are arranged so that the tubes B of the carrier pass between the upper and lower pairs of rollers. The seat is clamped to the axles I by means of the washers H and nuts K. In a modification, the carrier may consist of two strips of metals in which are mounted axles carrrying rollers upon which revolves an endless band which carries the seat.
