Abstract:
Aspects of the present disclosure relate to a capillary fluidic device comprising at least two inlets, a microfluidic channel and an outlet. The device allows for the autonomous and programmable sequential flow of the same or different fluids using capillary fluidics for autonomous pumping of liquids to other downstream fluidic structures. External pumping and valving systems are not required, thus reducing complexity and increasing portability of stand-alone microfluidic systems. Aspects of the present disclosure can be applied to other fluidic structures for performing analytical biological assays. The integration has at least one reaction chamber and at least one capillary pump. The device is integrated with at least one sensor for detection and quantification of the biological assay signals.
Abstract:
A device for producing a reproducible identification pattern of a polished gemstone includes light directing means for directing a focused beam of light onto a gemstone orientated in a particular known manner to produce an output of the internal refraction and reflection characteristics of the gemstone including reflected light beams having particular locations, sizes and intensities. The device also includes automated means for changing a position of the gemstone relative to the focused beam of light; and also a means for recording the output in a manner to record the relative size and location of the reflected light beams.
Abstract:
An inspection system is configured for use with a conveyer apparatus including carrier bars. Each carrier bar conveys pellet-shaped articles along a predetermined path. The inspection system includes at least one camera unit for sensing a predetermined characteristic of the pellet-shaped articles, a removal unit, and a controller. The removal unit, downstream from the at least one camera unit, removes selected pellet-shaped article(s) from the carrier bar(s) depending on whether the characteristic is sensed by the at least one camera unit. The controller is in communication with the at least one camera unit and the removal unit. The controller provides a signal to the removal unit in accordance with the sensed characteristic. The removal unit includes a rotatable ejection drum having extended vacuum nozzles along its length, equal to the number of articles conveyed in each earner bar. Each vacuum nozzle selectively removes article(s) from the earner bar(s) by suction.
Abstract:
An analyzer for the detection of single molecules or molecular complexes uses electromagnetic radiation translated through the sample to detect the presence of absence of a molecule with zero carryover between samples.
Abstract:
A method of extracting and analyzing bodily fluids from a patient at the point of care for the patient is provided. The method comprises establishing fluid communication between an analyte detection system 334, 1700 and a bodily fluid in the patient. A portion of the bodily fluid is drawn from the patient. The drawn portion is separated into a first component of the bodily fluid, while the analyte detection system 334, 1700 remains in fluid communication with the patient. The analyte detection system 334, 1700 analyzes the first component to measure a concentration of an analyte.
Abstract:
An integrated metrology module includes a chuck for holding a sample and positioning the sample with respect to an optical metrology device, a reference chip for the optical metrology device, the reference chip being movable to various positions with respect to the optical metrology device, and a reference chip purge device provides a flow of purge gas or air over the reference chip while the reference chip is in the various positions. The reference chip purge device may be static or movable with the reference chip.
Abstract:
Apparatus and methods for analyzing single molecule and performing nucleic acid sequencing. An integrated device includes multiple pixels with sample wells configured to receive a sample, which, when excited, emits radiation; at least one element for directing the emission radiation in a particular direction; and a light path along which the emission radiation travels from the sample well toward a sensor. The apparatus also includes an instrument that interfaces with the integrated device. Each sensor may detect emission radiation from a sample in a respective sample well. The instrument includes an excitation light source for exciting the sample in each sample well.
