Abstract: A call from a caller to a called party is forwarded to an answering service. A cadence of the call is determined, and an agent is selected to answer the call. To select the agent, a cadence of the selected agent is determined, and the determined cadence of the selected agent is matched to the determined cadence of the call. In particular, the called party has a geographic location associated therewith, and the selected agent has a cadence that matches a cadence associated with the determined geographic location. Contact between the selected agent and the call is then effectuated. The matched cadence is expected to heighten a connection the caller perceives from the selected agent.

Abstract: An access device for placing a medical article within a body space includes a needle, a dilator, and a sheath. The dilator can be coaxially and slideably disposed about the needle, and the sheath can be coaxially and slideably disposed about the dilator. The access device can further include a inner member coaxially disposed between the needle and dilator. The needle can include a fenestration in fluid communication with a space between the needle and inner member. When the needle punctures a blood vessel, the fenestration allows blood to flow into the space between the needle and inner member to provide a visual indicator to a physician or healthcare professional that the needle is in a vessel.

Abstract: A syringe pump configured to mechanically align a force sensor with an axis of a plunger of a syringe for a purpose of minimizing force measurement inaccuracies. The syringe pump includes a syringe pump housing that is configured to receive at least a portion of said syringe, wherein the syringe is selected from a plurality of syringes of different dimensions. A plunger retainer mechanism is pivotably coupled to the syringe pump housing and is configured to retain said plunger of said syringe. The plunger retainer mechanism pivots relative to the syringe pump housing based on a sensed dimension of the plunger to align a force sensor coupled to the plunger retainer mechanism with the axis of the plunger; and a syringe drive mechanism is operably coupled to the syringe pump housing and configured to shift the plunger relative to the portion of the syringe received by the syringe pump housing.

Abstract: An assembly is configured to position a peristaltic tube with respect to a linear peristaltic pump drive of an infusion pump. The assembly can include a peristaltic tube, first and second tube couplers, a frame, first and second securement plates, a free-flow prevention arm, and a biasing mechanism. The frame can include a snap-fit tab configured to releasably secure the assembly to an assembly receptacle of the infusion pump. The free-flow prevention arm can be selectively movable between a free-flow preventing position and a free-flow allowing position. A latching mechanism can be ergonomically manipulable to latch the free-flow prevention arm in a free-flow allowing position, and to unlatch the free-flow prevention arm such that the biasing mechanism is able to bias the free-flow prevention arm to the free-flow preventing position.

Abstract: A method of constructing a catheter assembly having an integrated septum. The method comprising molding a catheter hub having a distal end, a proximal end, and an internal wall defining an internal fluid passageway therebetween, the internal fluid wall defining an injection mold window located between the distal end and the proximal end; seating a catheter tube within the internal fluid passageway of the catheter hub, such that a proximal end of the catheter tube resides within the internal fluid passageway of the catheter hub, and a distal end of the catheter tube extends distally from the distal end of the catheter hub; plugging at least a proximal end of the catheter hub with a mold core shut off pin; and injection molding a septum in at least a portion of the internal fluid passageway between the mold core shut off pin and the proximal end of the catheter tube through the injection mold window.

Abstract: A safety catheter insertion assembly including a catheter hub coupling assembly. The safety catheter insertion assembly having a needle hub slideably coupled to a needle housing such that the needle hub is moveable between a first position wherein an insertion needle extends from the needle housing, and a second position wherein the sharp distal tip is housed within the needle housing, the catheter hub coupling assembly coupling the catheter hub to the needle housing in the first position and releasing the catheter hub from the needle housing in the second position.

Abstract: Catheter assemblies may include introducer needles having a notch or similar structure that allows flashback blood to enter the annular space between a catheter tube and an introducer needle of an IV catheter. The presence of flashback blood in this annular space can provide a clinician with an early, visible indication that a needle has entered a vein. The notch, however, may create a leak path for blood to escape outside of the catheter assembly, unless contained. Disclosed herein is a notch containment that prevents the notch from providing a leak path for blood to escape outside of the catheter during or after needle withdrawal.

Abstract: A passive safety catheter assembly configured to inhibit access to the distal tip of a needle cannula prior to release of a catheter insertion assembly from a catheter hub. The passive safety catheter assembly includes a safety clip assembly configured to transition between a first position in which the safety clip assembly selectively couples the catheter insertion assembly to the catheter hub, and a second position in which the safety clip assembly traps the sharp distal tip of the needle cannula within the safety clip assembly prior to release of the coupling between the catheter insertion assembly and the catheter hub.

Abstract: A pump has a housing having at least one inlet, one outlet, and an internal track with a given configuration. A piston movably positioned inside the housing has at least one protuberance movably mated to the track. As the piston is reciprocally driven by a motor, it is guided by the movement of the protuberance along the track to move bidirectionally along the housing and selectively rotate such that when the piston is moved to a first position, a fluid path is established through the inlet to enable fluid to be input into the housing. When the piston is moved to a second position, another fluid path is established through the outlet so that fluid is output from the housing. Multiple chambers may be formed in the housing to enable synchronous and selective opening and closing of respective inlets and outlets to enhance fluid flow.
