Abstract: A composition containing the extract of Lithospermum erythrorhizon is provided to suppress decrease of ceramides by damage of skin barriers and pruritus without side effects, so that the composition is useful for treatment of damaged skin barriers. A food composition for treatment of damaged skin barriers contains the extract of Lithospermum erythrorhizon, which is prepared by using water or C1-C6 organic solvent including methanol, ethanol, propanol, isopropanol, butanol, acetone, ether, benzene, chloroform, ethyl acetate, methylene chloride, hexane, cyclohexane and petroleum ether, or the fermented extracts of Saururas chinensis Baill, Houttuynia Cordata and Lithospermum erythrorhizon in a ratio of 1:1:1 to 4:3:1, and is formulated as liquid, tablet, powder, granule or pill, wherein the daily dosage of the composition is 0.01-100 mg/kg.

Abstract: A composition for improving constipation is provided to be able to excellently improve the constipation within short period of time such as within 10 hours by inhibiting absorption of moisture into intestine and increasing osmotic pressure into the intestine without causing diarrhea. The composition for improving constipation comprises at least one sugar and sugar alcohol selected from the group consisting of indigestible maltodextrin and lactulose as an effective ingredient, wherein the sugar and sugar alcohol are contained to show an osmotic pressure value of 120-350 mOsm, measured from the solution obtained by concentrating or diluting a solution containing the sugar and sugar alcohol into 100 gram and then diluting the concentration into 1/10 thereof. In the composition, the sugar alcohol is selected from the group consisting of sorbitol, xylitol, erythritol, lactitol, mannitol, and maltitol.
