The liquid slag is introduced into a granulation chamber in a free flowing jet while directing compressed water jets against the slag jet, whereupon the solidified and granulated slag is conducted through a pneumatic conveyor duct and a distributor along with the vapour formed. The partial streams leaving the distributor, via conically tapering nozzles are transferred into a grinding space exhibiting a lower pressure than the granulation space and from which the comminuted and solidified material is drawn off.

Abstract: In a process for dechroming, and/or depleting the MgO content of, steel slags, oxygen is introduced into the liquid steel slag to an extent sufficient for converting iron quantitatively to iron oxide and at least 5% by weight of the iron oxide contained in the slag to iron-III-oxide. The oxidized slag obtained solidifies and is disintegrated, whereupon the paramagnetic portions formed are magnetically isolated and separated from the dechromed slag.

Abstract: In a process for the preparation of pig iron and cement clinker in a fusion gasifier (3) in which the charge is at least partly preheated and possibly deacidified and subjected to preliminary reduction or is used in the form of scrap, coal is blown into a fluidized bed (7) and gasified with the reduction of the charge and pig iron (8) and slag (9) are tapped off in liquid form, the procedure is such that the lime charge introduced into the fusion gasifier (3), possibly together with a portion of an iron ore, is preheated in a preheating shaft (1) and calcined and charged according to the clinker composition required.

Abstract: A method for processing steel slags and optionally iron carriers such as, e.g., electric furnace slags, converter slags, dusts derived from steel production, mill scale or secondary metallurgical residues, in which the molten steel slags or iron carriers are supplemented with chromium ores or chromium-containing and/or nickel-containing dusts in order to adjust a slag basicity of 1.2 to 1.6, whereby the bath temperature is maintained at above 1600° C., in particular between 1650° C. and 1800° C., and a carbon-containing iron bath is provided or formed. In addition to environmentally safe slags, a high-grade ferrochromium alloy may be recovered, thus enhancing the economy of the method.

Abstract: In a method for desiliconizing pig iron prior to subsequent refining to steel molten steel slag after blast furnace tapping is charged onto the tapped pig iron bath, and optionally onto the blast furnace slag bath, in an amount corresponding to the Si content of the pig iron and the Fe and/or Cr oxide contents of the slag. The amount of steel slag is calculated such that the Si content of the pig iron is reduced to below 0.5% by weight at a simultaneous increase in the SiO2 content of the slag while reducing to liquid metals the Fe and/or Cr oxides of the slag. The slag-iron bath temperature is maintained at below 1500° C.

Abstract: The invention relates to a method for processing steel slags and optionally ferriferous materials such as e.g. electric furnace slags, converter slags, dust produced during the manufacturing of steel, rolling mill cinders or secondary metallurgical tailings. According to the inventive method, the molten steel slags or ferriferous materials are mixed with chrome ores or wi th dust containing chrome and/or nickel in order to adjust the slag basicity to a level ranging from 1.2 to 1.6, whereby the bath temperature is maintained at a temperature greater than 1600 ~C, especially between 1650 ~C and 1800 ~C, an d an Fe bath containing carbon is provided or configured. In addition to the environmentally compatible slags, a high-quality ferrochrome alloy can be obtained, whereby the economic efficiency of the method is improved.
