Abstract: Disclosed is a method of treating, fly ash having an unacceptably high concentration of carbon, with ozone produced in situ by corona discharge. This method will allow high carbon-content fly ash to be used with air entrainment agents as an additive to cement. The corona discharge can be produced in the exhaust pipe of various combustion systems. The device of this invention can be used in conjunction with a triboelectric carbon-fly ash separation system or in a conventional combustion system. The corona discharge is produced off of sharp-tipped metal devices.

Abstract: A flat plate corona cell for generating ozone with a generally convergent radial gas flow. The net gas flow direction through the corona gap is from the outer edges of the cell inward towards an exit port in the approximate center of the cell. This eliminates parasitic arcing at the perimeter, greatly increases the life of the perimeter seal, and provides a homogenous gas flow which increases ozone output. The cell design allows both electrodes to be operated at high voltage, therefore reducing the effective kilovolts with respect to ground by half.

Abstract: Disclosed herein is an apparatus and method for the production of ozone gas comprising: a parallel resonance circuit formed by a high voltage transformer and a companion flexible polymeric corona discharge chamber which encloses an electrode and serves as both a passageway and reservoir for oxygen bearing gas, and a fluid counter-electrode, all contained within an appropriate enclosure. Said corona discharge chamber possesses an electrical reactance which can be varied in order to match the electrical reactance of a companion high voltage transformer so that the components resonate, hereby maximizing the transfer of energy to the corona discharge gap. The dwell of corona discharge is further enhanced by an electrostatic potential incorporated across said tube wall (electret effect). Heat formed in said discharge gap (detrimental to ozone production) is advantageously transferred to said fluid counter-electrode which also serves as an electrolytic connection between said high voltage transformer and said corona discharge chamber. Within said chamber, relatively large volumes of oxygen may be exposed to the high field density, ozone producing, resonating discharges as consequence of its flexible and linear design. The apparatus and methods described herein permit and encourage the use of intermittent and cyclic application of resonating energy and therefore achieves an improved degree of electrical efficiency. The teachings of the present invention make practical the use of alternative sources of energy for the private and commercial generation of ozone gas.

Abstract: The apparatus for producing a desired quantity of ozone uses a flow of air in which a corona discharge utilizes high voltage to produce sparks. This apparatus includes a source of high voltage and the spark is produced when metal or conducting edge portions of the blades are moved in way of spaced conductors carried in a tubular confine. The blades are carried as an assembly which may be rotated by a flow of air. The flow of air and the turning of the assembly maintains the blades in a cooled condition so that unwanted burning of the edges of the blades does not occur. The corona discharged ozone may be used in swimming pools, or as an air purifier or dust eliminator. The ozone, when used in a closed building, will utilize a timer so an excess of ozone is not produced. The rotating of the bladed member is preferably by the flow of air, said volume of air flow regulates the speed of rotation.

Abstract: An air ionizing apparatus for producing heavy oxygen molecules includes an electrode assembly and a transformer source of high electrical potential for the electrode assembly. The latter comprises an open-ended rectangular metallic container within which are retained three flattened tubular spirals of metal wire mesh, the middle one of which is isolated by dielectric inserts, and the outer ones of which contact the container. Each is wound to form effectively a tube within a tube and is locked in such form by downwardly bent portions of the outer end of the spiral engaging the mesh directly below. One side of the high potential is connected by means of the container to the outer electrodes. The center electrode is removably connected to a high voltage post by a wire contact mounted upon opposite walls of the inner electrode tube and resiliently engaging a terminal post leading to the other side of the high potential source.
