Abstract:
The present invention is a method (100), and apparatus (1000) for the computerized automatic analysis of lesions in ultrasound images, including the computerized analysis of lesions in the breast using gradient, gray level, and texture based measures (108, 1007, 1010, 1011). Echogenicity features are developed to assess the characteristics of the lesions (110, 1014), and in some cases give an estimate of the likelihood of malignancy or of prognosis for the automated segmentation of the lung regions in lateral chest radiographs. The output from the computerized analysis (112, 1020) is used in making a diagnosis, and/or prognosis. For example, with the analysis of the ultrasound images of the breast, the features can be used to either distinguish between malignant and benign lesions, or distinguish between (i.e., diagnosis) the types of benign lesions such as benign solid lesions (e.g. fibroadenoma), simple cysts, complex cysts, and benign cysts. The ultrasound image features can be merged with those from mammographic, and/or magnetic resonance images of the same lesion for classification by means of a common artificial neural network.
Abstract:
The present invention provides methods for producing antibodies against a variety of antigens, including mammalian antigens with highly conserved epitopes. In addition, the present invention provides improved methods and compositions for the cloning and manipulation of immunoglobulin genes as well as antibodies derived therefrom.
Abstract:
The present invention provides a method for delivering ionizing radiation to specific tissues, resulting in the activation of a DNA molecule comprising a radiation responsive enhancer-promoter operatively linked to an ecoding region that encodes at least one polypeptide. The radiation source will generally be in the form of a radionuclide, capable of gamma or beta emissions. Processes for regulating polypeptide expression and inhibiting tumor growth using such DNA molecules are also provided.
Abstract:
Disclosed are DNA sequences encoding novel DNA binding proteins implicated in regulation of early stages of cell growth. Illustratively provided are human and mouse origin DNA sequences encoding early growth regularoty ('Egr') proteins which include 'zinc finger' regions of the type involved in DNA binding. Also disclosed is a detailed analysis of the structure and function of the early growth regulatory protein, Egr-1, delineating independent and modular activation, repression, DNA-binding, and nuclear localization activities. Also disclosed are immunological methods and materials for detection of Egr proteins and hybridization methods and materials for detection and quantification of Egr protein related nucleic acids.
Abstract:
A method of computerized analysis of temporally sequential digital images, including (a) determining first shift values between pixels of a first digital image and corresponding pixels of a second digital image (440); (b) warping the second digital image based on the first shift values to obtain a first warped image in which spatial locations of pixels are varied in relation to the first shift values (450); (c) determining second shift values between pixels of the first digital image and pixels of the first warped image; and (d) warping the first warped image based on the second shift values to obtain a second warped image (470). Iterative warping enhances image for the first subtraction of the first digital image and the final warped image to produce a difference image (480).
Abstract:
This invention provides methods, formulations and kits to reduce the toxicity of flavopiridol and analogs thereof. Disclosed are therapeutics and treatment methods employing such drugs in combination with agents that increase conjugative enzyme activity or glucuronosyltransferase activity, and agents that decrease biliary transport protein activity, such as cyclosporine A, the resultant effects of which are to decrease the significant side effects previously associated with treatment using these drugs. The invention also characterizes specific isoforms of glucuronyltransferase enzymes involved in glucuronidation of flavopiridols and their analogs.
Abstract:
A method for reducing food intake in a subject and a method for reducing the levels of an endocrine in a subject. The methods include administering to the subject in need thereof an effective amount of a compound of the formula (I). Also disclosed is a liposomal preparation which includes a liposome and a compound entrapped therein. The entrapped compound is of the formula shown above.
Abstract:
A transgenic plant having increased stress tolerance, such as thermotolerance, comprises a Hsp 100 family nucleic acid sequence. The invention is also directed to methods of producing products from transgenic Hsp 100 plants.
Abstract:
Chelerythrine is an effective inhibitor of solid tumor growth and is extremely cytotoxic in combination with chemotherapeutic agents that directly damage DNA.
Abstract:
The present invention provides a method for inducing hair growth by providing beta-catenin activity to a skin cell. This may be achieved by providing a beta-catenin polypeptide, providing a beta-catenin agonist, providing a polynucleotide encoding a beta-catenin polypeptide, enhancing the de novo synthesis of beta-catenin, increasing the stability or decreasing the degradation of beta-catenin polypeptides.
