Abstract: An image magnifying and pick-up system including a lighting light-guide device for guiding illuminating light to the surface of an observed portion of a specimen. The device includes a light-guide cap mounted at the front end of a lens tube. The light-guide cap includes an outer surface adapted to be abutted against the surface of the specimen, so that illuminating light from optical fibres is guided through the lens tube and light-guide cap may be projected on to the surface of the specimen. The light-guide cap is formed of a transparent material into a substantially hemi-spherical shape and has a central observation aperture, to that the illuminating light may be introduced via an annular end surface of the light-guide cap through the cap to the peripheral surface of the observation aperture.

Abstract: To provide a camera that is suited to shoot both a demagnified image and a magnified image. The camera includes a housing body 11 containing a CCD 15, and a lens barrel 12. An abutted member 20 having an objective lens 40 therein is engaged with the lens barrel 12 and a rotatable manually-controlled member 30 is fitted around that lens barrel. The abutted member 20 moves back and forth in the direction of an optical axis K in response to the rotation of the manually-controlled member 30. A user can move the abutted member 20 and the objective lens 40 back and forth by controlling the manually-controlled member 30. A magnified image can be photographed with the manually-controlled member 30 at its advanced position while a demagnified image can be photographed with the manually-controlled member 30 at its retracted position. The focal point of the objective lens 40 falls on the center of an end of the abutted member 20 located at the position for shooting a magnified image. The magnified image is photographed with the end of the abutted member 20 abutted against the object.

Abstract: A lighting device for an observation/image pickup apparatus capable of satisfactorily illuminating a surface of an observed section of a specimen sample for observation irrespective of whether a fine roughness is provided on the specimen surface. Abstract: The present invention is intended to enable the change of the operating mode of an observation apparatus of a video system between a fluorescent observation mode and an ordinary observation mode and to enable the observation apparatus to reproduce a clear image for observation. The observation apparatus in accordance with the present invention uses a principle that an image pickup system (11) provides three colour signals, namely, R-, G- and B-signals. The image pickup system of the observation apparatus is provided with an illuminating light selecting means (12) for selectively providing light in a specified wavelength region as illuminating light, and a colour signal selecting means (15) for selectively providing the colour signals. When the specified wavelength region is the visible region, at least the colour signals in a wavelength region including the specified wavelength region including the illuminating light are cut off. When the specified wavelength region is in an ultraviolet region, the colour signals in a wavelength region including the main wavelength region including fluorescent light emitted by excitation by the illuminating light in the ultraviolet region are provided selectively.

A first polarizing element (9) having a predetermined polarization plane is arranged in the optical path of light projected from the projection end of a light guide (4) onto a subject, while a second polarizing element (12) having a predetermined polarization plane is arranged in the optical path of light reflected at the subject and guided to an image pickup element (3). The polarization planes of the first and second polarizing elements (9, 12) are varied relative to each other to provide an image either including or free of light reflected at the surface of the subject.

A user of the system picks up the skin having benign nevus pigmentosus that might be melanoma through a dermoscope using a portable telephone with a camera to which the dermoscope is attached by means of an adapter, accesses to the Internet using an Internet connection function of the portable telephone, and sends the picked up skin image to the remote diagnosis apparatus. After receiving the skin image, the remote diagnosis apparatus uses the melanoma diagnosis program to examine the skin image for melanoma and a disease stage of melanoma if there is melanoma and then sends a result to the user.
