The present invention includes a cable having reduced surface friction and the method of manufacture thereof including steps in which a conductor wire is coated with a first plastic material and with a mixture of a second plastic material and lubricating material and the coated conductor wire cooled. The cable includes at least one conductor core and at least two coatings of plastic material and incorporates a lubricating material in and/or on the outer layer of plastic material. The equipment for the manufacturing of the electrical cable includes a reel for supplying a conductor wire to an extruding head, which is connected to tanks containing plastic material and lubricating material for coating the conducting wire, and a reel for taking up the cable.
Abstract:
A High-Temperature Superconducting (HTS) transmission cable based on the cold dielectric concept with an HTS shield makes it possible to house all three phases inside a single cryostat without causing large degradation and loss due to magnetic fields generated by the neighboring phases. A further optimization is realized by making the three phases concentric to each other. No shielding layer is required in such a tri-axial configuration. It is more compact and requires only about half of the HTS tapes as that of three separately shielded phases. Each phase advantageously consists of two layers of BSCCO-2223 HTS tapes.

An improved apparatus and method for the recycling accumulation of at least one moving continuous band (B) in a continuous molten metal casting machine of the type having continuously advancing mold parts, at least one of which is formed by said band and wherein at a station (100) located in a space relationship to said casting machine, the elongated continuous band, belt, or strip is accumulated from the mold end (D) and simultaneously fed out or supplied to the mold beginning (A). In combination therewith are the use of means (300) to properly tension said band or bands, belt, or strip so as to connect a substantially unlimited number of individual elongated belts to the one in use. The apparatus is configured to permit incorporation into newly designed apparatus or retrofitting for use with a great many of the various continuous metal casting machines of past and present manufacture wherein at least one of the mold surfaces is formed by a band, belt, or strip moving in close contact with the cast metal.

Temperature and pressure of the primary gas, containing oxygen, and the secondary gas, containing hydrocarbons such as natural gas, methane, propane, or butane, are maintained to be equal before mixing in the mixing vlave ensuring a constant mass ratio in the case of fluctuations in temperature or pressure between the two fluid components.

The plurality of core strands may comprise a first portion of core strands and a second portion of core strands. The first portion of core strands may comprise a first number of strands. The first portion of core strands may comprise steel. The second portion of core strands may comprise a second number of strands. The second portion of core strands may comprise a composite material. A ratio of the first number of strands to the overall number of strands and a ratio of the second number of strands to the overall number of strands may be optimized to give the conductor core a predetermined characteristic.

In order to provide a flexible oxide superconducting cable which is reduced in AC loss, tape-shaped superconducting wires covered with a stabilizing metal are wound on a flexible former. The superconducting wires are preferably laid on the former at a bending strain of not more than 0.2 %. In laying on the former, a number of tape-shaped superconducting wires are laid on a core member in a side-by-side manner, to form a first layer. A prescribed number of tape-shaped superconducting wires are laid on top of the first layer in a side-by-side manner, to form a second layer. The former may be made of a metal, plastic, reinforced plastic, polymer, or a composite and provides flexibility to the superconducting wires and the cable formed therewith. Methods of forming and terminating a triaxial superconductor are disclosed.
