Abstract: An improved apparatus and method for the recycling accumulation of at least one moving continuous band (B) in a continuous molten metal casting machine of the type having continuously advancing mold parts, at least one of which is formed by said band and wherein at a station (100) located in a space relationship to said casting machine, the elongated continuous band, belt, or strip is accumulated from the mold end (D) and simultaneously fed out or supplied to the mold beginning (A). In combination therewith are the use of means (300) to properly tension said band or bands, belt, or strip so as to connect a substantially unlimited number of individual elongated belts to the one in use. The apparatus is configured to permit incorporation into newly designed apparatus or retrofitting for use with a great many of the various continuous metal casting machines of past and present manufacture wherein at least one of the mold surfaces is formed by a band, belt, or strip moving in close contact with the cast metal.

Abstract: 1,128,798. Continuous casting-machines. SOUTHWIRE CO. 20 March, 1967 [9 May, 1966], No. 12861/67. Heading B3F. In a continuous casting machine in which the mould is defined by a peripheral groove in a casting wheel C and a band B, a support wheel 14 for holding the band B on to the periphery of the wheel C and controlling its position thereon is mounted on a structure 10 so as to be movable linearly substantially parallel to the axis of rotation of the casting wheel C to align the band B with the wheel C and also pivotably to align the band B with the support wheel 14 and prevent twisting of the band. The support wheel 14 is mounted on an axle (19), (Fig. 2, not shown) that has a ball-and-socket (20), (21) location for allowing the axle to be pivoted by screw threaded studs (24), the said ball and socket location being mounted within an inner sleeve (16) movable longitudinally by a screw threaded shaft (30) within an outer sleeve (15).
