    Abstract: A fluid-pressure-operated actuator is arranged to have three set positions and preferably a fail-safe characteristic in one of the three positions. In one embodiment an H-section piston moves in an actuator body and is set in its two extreme positions by fluid pressure introduced behind the web of the piston through one or other of spindles having heads and bores. To set the intermediate position, annular pistons can be moved along the spindles by pressure introduced at inlet pipes in the body until those pistons contact the heads of the spindles. The spindles are adjustable in the body to set the intermediate position of the piston and adjusting bolts set the extreme positions of the piston. For a fail-safe situation, a reservoir and control valve are introduced. As an alternative to annular pistons springs acting through top-hat shaped buffers can be used giving a fail-safe situation in the intermediate position of the piston.

    Abstract: A catheter assembly especially adapted for injecting therapeutic liquids such as DNA solutions to a patient's myocardium comprises an elongated guiding catheter for insertion through a patient's artery to the vicinity of the myocardium, a reservoir for therapeutic liquid at the distal end of the guiding catheter, one or more injection needles protruding from the distal end of the guiding catheter and in fluid communication with the reservoir, the extent of needle protrusion being appropriate for penetration of but not passage through the myocardial wall, and operating means for delivering a predetermined quantity of therapeutic liquid from the reservoir through the needles.

    Abstract: 8146. Stewart, D., and Wishart, T. April 20. Switches.-Relates to electrically-actuated centrifugal machines of the self-balancing type. To facilitate the starting and stopping of the machine, the motor is controlled by a switch, Fig. 3, in which; upon turning the arm m in one direction, current is first directed through the armature c, one set of the coils h of the field magnets, resistances, and the other set of magnet coils, in series ; the resistances are gradually cut out ; then one set of the field-magnet coils is cut out ; next the two sets of magnets are placed in parallel for the steady running of the machine, and the resistance cut out. By moving the arm back beyond the central position, the current in the armature is reversed, which quickly brings the machine to rest.
