Abstract:
A microclimate management sheet, for placing against a person's body, includes a flexible generally fluid impermeable first layer, a flexible generally fluid impermeable second layer with a gas permeable region for facing a patient's body. The first layer is joined with the second layer in a manner to form a chamber between the first layer and the second layer. An inlet operative to be in fluid communication with a supply of gas and in fluid communication with the chamber is provided for delivering a gas to the chamber, with the gas permeable region for directing the gas the patient's body.
Abstract:
A surgical saw blade (24) including a blade mount (42), a shaft (52) that extends forward from the blade mount and a blade head (66) that extends radially outwardly from the shaft. The shaft has a mass that is asymmetric relative to the mechanical axis of oscillation (61) around which the blade mount oscillates. The shaft may have one or more sections (56, 58) that are asymmetric to the axis of oscillation that function as the asymmetric mass.
Abstract:
A patient support includes a layer of fluid pressurized bladders, the bladders each having a chamber and an upwardly facing surface for facing and supporting a patient, and a cover over the layer of fluid pressurized bladders. Respective bladders in at least a group of the bladders each have a resilient body in its respective chamber to reform the shape of the respective bladder when a compression load on the respective bladder is removed wherein the pressure in the respective bladders is generally maintained without a powered supply of air. The cover has an upwardly facing patient surface and a bladder layer facing surface, with the patient surface for forming a patient support surface on the support, and the bladder layer facing surface for lying on the upwardly facing surfaces of the bladders.
Abstract:
A network system prevents portable wireless remote control consoles from unintended activation of a medical device by determining if the console is located in a working space within a medical care room. Transceiver locator devices determine the position of the remote control consoles and send information to room control units indicating when a console is within the desired working space. The room control unit receives signals from the remote control console in the working space to control medical devices. The room control unit can also determine which of multiple remote control consoles within the working space is permitted to operate the medical devices. Each room control unit can send a presence output to the remote control console to enable use thereof. The remote control console can have an orientation sensor or a grip detector to prevent unintended operation thereof.
Abstract:
The invention facilitates the efficient administration of medical offices and patient records including visual coordination of room, patient, and task status indicators. The invention also enables improved document review and transcription management.
Abstract:
A plasma sterilization system and method employing an improved plasma generator exhibiting low pressure drop of fluid passing through the plasma generator, and/or a homogeneous distribution of current through the space between a primary planar electrode and a secondary planar electrode and exhibiting enhanced sterilization performance in accordance with certain preferred embodiments includes at least one porous dielectric material having a tortuous pore structure disposed adjacent at least one of the electrodes, a plasma generating chamber defining an enclosure having a fluid inlet and a fluid outlet, in which the inlet and outlet are located laterally of and between planes coinciding with major surfaces of the planar electrodes, and a liquid phase additive injector for introducing an additive to the plasma generating chamber to provide improved biocidic property.
Abstract:
A medical /surgical irrigator (30) with a handpiece (32) for discharging a lavage solution. There is reservoir in which a therapeutic agent is stored (38). The therapeutic agent can be selectively mixed with the lavage solution to form a blended solution. The mixing can be performed selectively so as to make it possible to sequentially apply the blended solution or a basic (lavage only) solution.
Abstract:
A foot support and abduction assembly includes an abductor-mounted foot support configured for pivotal attachment proximate a foot end of a maternity bed. A calf support assembly, for mounting to the foot support, includes a housing for removably attaching the calf support to the foot support. The housing includes a spring-biased pin for releasably securing the housing to the foot support and at least one mounting stud configured for insertion into a keyhole aperture on the foot support. A calf support portion is adjustably mounted to the housing by a ball-type pivot mount. An adjustment mechanism is provided for selectively fixing the position of the calf support portion relative to the housing. The adjustment mechanism includes a slidable sleeve for locking the ball-type pivot, and a threaded rod or a cam shaft arranged to shift the slidable sleeve.
Abstract:
A hybrid surgical navigation system for tracking the position of body tissue. The system includes a marker (38) shaped to be mounted subcutaneously to the tissue the position of which is to be tracked. A tracker (32) located above skin level is placed near the marker. A first navigation system integral with the marker and tracker generate data indicating the position of the marker relative to the tracker. A second navigation (40) monitors the position of the tracker. The tracker also includes a transmitter for transmitting data generated by the first navigation system. Based on the data generated by the first navigation system representative of the position of the marker relative to the tracker and the data from the second navigation system representative of the position of the tracker, the position of the marker and tissue to which it is attached is determined.
Abstract:
A pump for rapidly discharging irrigation fluid to a surgical site. The pump includes a cabinet with an opening. Inside the pump there is a static plate and a dynamic plate that extends towards/retracts from the static plate. The space between the plates is a bag well in which a bag containing irrigation fluid can be inserted/replaced through the cabinet opening. A lid covers the opening. A sensor monitors the open/closed state of the lid. A drive motor actuates the dynamic plate. A control unit regulates the actuation of the motor. Only when the lid sensor determines that the lid is closed does the control unit actuate the motor. The dynamic plate can be placed in various open positions relative to the static plate so bags containing different volumes of fluid can be used with the pump.
