Abstract:
A distraction frame for use with a surgical table, wherein the surgical table comprises a base for positioning on a floor, the distraction frame comprising: a table mount for fixation to the base of the surgical table; at least one horizontal strut mounted to the table mount; at least one vertical strut mounted to the at least one horizontal strut; and at least one distraction mechanism mounted to the at least one vertical strut, wherein the at least one distraction mechanism is configured for connection to a limb of a patient and for applying a distraction force to the limb of the patient; wherein the table mount is configured to transfer to the floor a force moment imposed on the table mount when the at least one distraction mechanism applies a distraction force to a limb of a patient.
Abstract:
A computer visual guidance system for guiding a surgeon through an arthroscopic debridement of a bony pathology, wherein the computer visual guidance system is configured to: (i) receive a 2D image of the bony pathology from a source; (ii) automatically analyze the 2D image so as to determine at least one measurement with respect to the bony pathology; (iii) automatically annotate the 2D image with at least one annotation relating to the at least one measurement determined with respect to the bony pathology so as to create an annotated 2D image; and (iv) display the annotated 2D image to the surgeon so as to guide the surgeon through the arthroscopic debridement of the bony pathology.
Abstract:
A vaso-occlusive device is constructed out of dissimilar metallic materials that are in contact or otherwise in close proximity with one another, thereby causing the device to undergo galvanic corrosion when exposed to an electrolytic medium, such as blood or other body fluid, wherein one of the dissimilar metallic materials is zirconium or zirconium alloy to create a corrosive product including zirconia having a relatively high hardness, a relatively high fracture toughness, and a relatively high stability when the device is implanted in a vasculature site, such as an aneurysm.
Abstract:
A waste collection unit (40) with a primary display (106) on which information about the operation of the unit is presented. In addition to the primary display there is a light assembly (662) adjacent the fitting (614) to which a suction line is attached. The light assembly emits light of selectively colors or in a selected pattern based on an operation state of the waste collection unit.
Abstract:
System and methods of controlling a robotic system for manipulating anatomy of a patient during a surgical procedure include applying a force to the anatomy to generate a response by the anatomy. The response of the anatomy is measured and a characteristic of the anatomy is calculated based on the response. An instrument is autonomously controlled in relation to the anatomy based on the calculated characteristic.
Abstract:
Systems and methods for establishing and tracking virtual boundaries are disclosed. The virtual boundaries can delineate zones in which an instrument (22) is not permitted during a surgical procedure. The virtual boundaries can also delineate zones in which the surgical instrument (22) is permitted during the surgical procedure. The virtual boundaries can also identify objects or structures (F,T) to be treated by the instrument (22) or to be avoided by the instrument (22) during the surgical procedure.
Abstract:
A medical chair includes a seat, backrest, a leg rest, and a pair or armrests. The seat is movable between a plurality of positions, including an upright position, reclined position, Trendelenburg position, and a standing position. The backrest pivots about two different pivot axes to assist the occupant from a seated to a standing position, or vice versa. A combination electric and manual brake system automatically engages prior to transitioning between the sitting and standing positions. The armrests are adjustable in height and are shaped to include different heights so as to assist the occupant in moving into and out of the chair.
Abstract:
A powered surgical tool system including a tool unit (124} and a battery and control module (128). The battery and control module includes: cells (38) for supplying a charging current; sensors for monitoring a switch and/or the state of the tool power generating unit; and a controller (530) that, based on the signals from the sensors, selectively sources energization signals to the power generating unit (950) internal to the tool.
Abstract:
A patient handling device, such as a bed, stretcher, cot, or the like, includes a deck on which a patient may lie and which is surrounded by siderails. Control panels may be mounted on the siderails in a staggered fashion to improve the ease of accessing the control panels. A handle assembly may be included near the top of the Fowler section of the deck which allows a pair of handles to be squeezed independently for manual pivoting of the Fowler section. Squeezing one handle does not increase the force required to subsequently squeeze the other handle. The pivoting of the Fowler section may also be carried out automatically through an electrical actuator. The raising of the deck may be carried out through an electrical pump that pumps hydraulic fluid, and which may be activated near the top end of the stroke of a reciprocating pedal.
