Abstract:
A process brings out a high contrast in natural grain of a naturally pale wood via infrared irradiation having a wavelength which is as long as possible. This infrared radiation can come from a conventional infrared emitter or, more preferably, from a carbon dioxide laser. Due to the contact-free heating near the surface which is effective in a stagnant ambient atmosphere, the new wood part of the grain is browned, while the harder old wood part remains essentially unbrowned. This causes the natural grain of the wood to stand out in contrast. Due to the contact-free and turbulence-free mode of operation of the heating, the grain pattern produced is uniform. Any scratches or chatter marks in the wood are simply covered over and remain invisible.
Abstract:
Process for the preparation of solid pharmaceutical forms by mixing one or more pharmaceutical active compounds with one or more fusible, pharmacologically tolerated binders and, if required, other conventional pharmaceutical auxiliaries, at from 50.degree. to 180.degree. C., and subjecting the mixture to injection molding or extrusion and shaping, wherein the fusible binder used is a NVP polymer which contains not less than 20% by weight of NVP as copolymerized units, and, where they are present, all of whose comonomers contain nitrogen and/or oxygen.
Abstract:
Reaction of monohydroxy-fatty acids of the formulaCH.sub.3 --(CH.sub.2).sub.m --CHOH--(CH.sub.2).sub.n --COOHwhere m is an integer from 4 to 9 and n is an integer from 6 to 11, with from 12 to 20 moles of ethylene oxide, the products thus obtained, and their use as solubilizers.
Abstract:
Complexes in powder form of iodine and a crosslinked polymer based on N-vinyl compounds are obtainable by dry heating of iodine and a polymer which is obtained by polymerization of monovinyl compounds (monomers A) whose vinyl group is bonded to a nitrogen atom of a nitrogen-containing heterocycle, in the presence of from 0.5 to 10% by weight, based on the monomers (A), of a compound (B) of the formula I; where A is —CH— or a nitrogen atom, and n is 2 or 3. The complexes are suitable for producing antidiarrheals.
Abstract:
Polyvinylpyrrolidone having a Fikentscher K value of from 14 to 95 is prepared at from 50.degree. to 95.degree. C. in aqueous solution with hydrogen peroxide as starter, the solution being maintained at pH 7-11 by means of NaOH, KOH, their carbonates or bicarbonates.
Abstract:
Readily water-soluble, slightly hygroscopic terpolymers which consist of(a) from 10 to 40% by weight of vinylpyrrolidone,(b) from 20 to 50% by weight of vinyl acetate (VAc) or vinyl propionate and(c) from 10 to 40% by weight of hydroxyethyl acrylate, hydroxypropyl acrylate or hydroxyethyl methacrylate, which terpolymers are used as auxiliaries in the cosmetics and pharmaceuticals sectors.
Abstract:
High molecular weight products based on N-vinylpyrrolidone, in which blocks of vinylpyrrolidone polymers or vinylpyrrolidone copolymers are linked by connecting units carrying ester, amide, urethane or urea groups, as a result of which these high molecular weight products are biodegradable and may be used as plasma substitutes, and the plasma substitutes thus obtained.
Abstract:
Shaped articles which are suitable as biocidal depth-type filters and consist of fibrous materials and particles, embedded therein, of crosslinked crospovidone-iodine or crospovidone-hydrogen peroxide.
Abstract:
The invention provided relates to the use of polyvinylpyrrolidone-iodine complexes in combination with gelling agents to produce strong disinfectants which not only physically stabilize biohazardous and infectious wastes but also kill pathogens contained in the wastes. The gelling agents include polyacyrlates that are superabsorbents.
Abstract:
Polymer complexes which comprises hydrogen peroxide, a polymer suitable for complex formation with hydrogen peroxide, and at least one metal colloid and/or metal salt are prepared as described and used in bactericidal compositions, disinfectant systems, hair cosmetic compositions and as free-radical initiators for chemical reactions.
