Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To promote effective application of CPR (cardiopulmonary resuscitation) by performing the measurement and indication of chest compression.SOLUTION: A displacement detector produces a displacement indication signal indicative of the displacement of the chest toward the CPR recipient's spine. A signaling mechanism provides chest compression indication signals directing a chest compression force being applied to the chest and a frequency of such compressions. An automated controller and an automated constricting device may be provided for applying CPR to the recipient in an automated fashion. The automated controller receives the chest compression indication signals from the signaling mechanism, and, in accordance with the signals, controls the force and frequency of constrictions. A system may be provided with a tilt compensator comprising a tilt sensor mechanism outputting a tilt compensation signal indicative of the extent of tilt of the device, and may be further provided with an adjuster for adjusting the distance value in accordance with the tilt compensation signal. An ECG signal processor may be provided which removes the CPR-induced artifact from a measured ECG signal obtained during the administration of CPR.

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a device for determining the depth of chest compression. SOLUTION: The device includes: an accelerometer capable of producing an acceleration signal of chest compressions; a processor for producing an estimated actual acceleration signal from the acceleration signal; and a means for integrating the acceleration signal, the means for integrating capable of producing an estimated actual depth signal corresponding to the estimated actual depth of chest compressions. The processor includes: a system identifier capable of producing an estimated noise signal corresponding to the noise component of the acceleration signal, wherein the system identifier produces the estimated noise signal by processing the measured acceleration and at least one error source reference; and a means for combining signals capable of combining the acceleration signal and the estimated noise signal to produce the estimated actual acceleration signal.
