PURPOSE: A cosmetic composition for skin whitening is provided to sooth melanocyte and to seclude stimulation caused by inflammation, UV and melasma blood vessels. CONSTITUTION: A cosmetic composition for skin whitening includes Magnolia Obovata Bark Extract, Citrus Unshiu Peel Extract, Wild Soybean Extract, Ginko Biloba Leaf Extract or Honeysuckle Flower Extract as an active ingredient. 0.01-10 weight% of the Magnolia Obovata Bark Extract, Citrus Unshiu Peel Extract, Wild Soybean Extract, Ginko Biloba Leaf Extract or Honeysuckle Flower Extract is contained for the total weight. The composition additionally contains one or more from glucoside, glycyrrhiza extract, arbutin, ascorbic acid or kojic acid. The composition fundamentally secludes the production of melanin inside the skin or composition easily eliminates the melanin inside the skin. PURPOSE: A method for preparing secoisolariciresinol is provided to obtain a cosmetic composition having good absorptivity to the user's skin and excellent activity of inhibiting the formation of reactive oxygen species. CONSTITUTION: The method for preparing secoisolariciresinol comprises hydrolyzing flaxseed extract or secoisolariciresinol diglucoside separated therefrom. The hydrolysis is an acidic hydrolysis, alkaline hydrolysis or enzymatic hydrolysis. More particularly, the enzyme used in the enzymatic hydrolysis is selected from the group consisting of exo-glycolases and composite enzymes containing exo-glycolases. Further, the cosmetic composition contains the secoisolariciresinol in an amount of 0.0001 to 10 wt% based on the total weight of the composition.
