    Abstract: A method of manufacturing an artificial seed of brown algae(Kjellmaniella crassifolia) by obtaining a zoospore by collecting an apothecium from mother algae of Kjellmaniella crassifolia before releasing the zoospore and culturing the zoospore is provided. An industrial rearing method of the brown algae is also provided. The manufacturing method enables artificial seed production by increasing sporophyte forming activity of a spore. An artificial seed of brown algae is produced by the steps of: obtaining a zoospore by collecting an apothecium from mother algae of Kjellmaniella crassifolia before releasing the zoospore; and culturing the zoospore. The mother algae are dried at 4deg.C in the shade for 11 to 13hr after collection. The zoospore is cultured at 7 to 13deg.C and an intensity of illumination of 1,500 to 2,500 lux for 35 to 45 days. The culturing of the zoospore is performed by the steps of: obtaining a gametophyte by culturing the zoospore; obtaining a sporophyte by culturing the gametophyte; and obtaining an artificial seed by culturing the sporophyte. The industrial rearing of the brown algae is performed by transplanting a seed on a string and rearing at a water depth of 4 to 6m in the first step and rearing the first-reared seed at a water depth of 20 to 30m in the second step.
